Kaede, better known as Lucy or Nyu, is the main protagonist of the manga/anime series Elfen Lied.
She the Diclonius Queen whom after being mistreated by almost everyone and driving her into misanthropic violence until she met Kouta. She would eventually reform for better, showing that there is still some good left in humanity.
While she was an villain, she ultimately changes herself for the better.
As Nyu, while she did sexually assault Yuka, it was due to her child-like personality. Once Nyu gained an sense of right and wrong, she does feel remorse for it.

She would help feed an puppy that she found out of sheer care, even trying to hide it to keep it safe.
She would end her rivlary with Nana, even though it varies differently.
She would ultimately reform herself and shows remorse apologizing to Kouta for his father and sister, thus redeeming herself. However yet again, it varies differently in the adaption.
Anime[]
She would protect Kouta from the Diclonius Research Institute and Mariko, both of whom endangered him when they attempted to go after her.
She would tell Nana to live happily in the Mapple Inn, knowing that she can live happy there even when Lucy has not able to.
She stated that she only did her acts to protect the other Diclonius due to their severe mistreatment.
She would seemly let herself be killed so she don't end up harming anyone else.
Manga[]
While She would accept Bando's duel, she only agreed to do it as long they were outside the Maple House to avoid endangering Her friends.
She would put an end to the Unknown Man for what he did to her friends and loved ones.
She would protect her friends when the Diclonius Research Institution invaded the Maple House to capture her and harmed her loved ones.
She would reject Director Kawauza’s goals and put an end to his schemes of trying to replace humanity with Diclonius.
She would end up promising to Kouta not to kill again and would allow Kurama to kill her, but due to Diclonous DNA Voice intervention stopping him and Kurama shooting Kouta by accident, this did end up ruining the attempt.
She would end up reversing her decision of destroying the Earth by healing Kouta at cost of her life, where she would end up melting alive and protecting him from harm.
She and Nyu would allow Kouta to mercy-kill her to put an end to the DNA Voice once and for all when it took control of her body and hold it off long off from harming her friends for Kouta to do the deed.
What Makes Her Inconsistent?[]
While she did redeem herself, her crimes are WAY TOO SEVERE to make her Pure Good or Near Pure Good since she spent an majority of the series as an On & Off, Grey-Zoned Inconsistently Heinous Villain in which she violently killed people. While her tragic past can lessen the severity albeit not entirely, and she only felt remorse for killing some of her victims like Kouta’s father and sister, but not feeling remorse for all of the others that she wrongfully killed. Even then, it wouldn't be enough anyways due to how servere the brutal murders she done.
To say that she is far too lethal is an understatement, as she brutally kills people while showing some sadism while doing so, such as using dismemberment and torture.
She had no problem in killing innocent people who weren't involved in wronging her, including families and children, where she killed many people to survive. While it was due to her being influenced by the DNA Voice, it is too severe to brush it off as an minor prevention.
She infected many males with her Diclonius Virus that resulted in her more of kind being made to replace humanity that got many killed.
She shown to he very nihilistic, seeing life as pointless for most of the story.
She shown to be very envious to the point of where she would kill any other women who is around Kouta, only holding back due to not wanting to traumatize him more.
She didn't do most of heroic acts out of selflessness, as while they are not entirely self-serving and pragmatic, she only did them for sake of Kouta and her other friends, making her very Anti-Heroic.
She has moral agency issues to the Diclonius DNA Voice manipulating her and her & Nyu switching personalities.
She is very extremely xenophobic to humans. However, her tragic past from being heavily mistreated by them makes it her hatred too understandable, making it an minor prevention.
Whenever she go from Nyu to Lucy, she ends up darkening the tone of the series in more brighter instances even when she isn't doing anything villainous, making her an Game Changer.
Trivia[]
Kaede, Kurama and Bando are the only Elfen Lied character to he Inconsistently Admirable so far and out of all of them she is the only Elfen Lied character to be Inconsistently Admirable & Inconsistently Heinous so far.
