Inconsistently Admirable Wiki

Dr. Jumba Jookiba is one of the two deuteragonists (alongside Wendy Pleakley) of Disney's Lilo & Stitch franchise.

He is a genetic scientist and the former business partner of Jacques von Hämsterviel. While he was initially complicit with helping the latter take over the galaxy, he eventually becomes a hero after saving Lilo Pelekai from Gantu.

He was voiced by the late David Ogden Stiers, who also voiced Cogsworth in the 1991 version of Beauty & the Beast.

His Good Rankings[]

What Makes Him Admirable?[]

Lilo and Stitch[]

  • Even while they were at odds back then, Jumba was visibly appalled by both Stitch's poor choice of words during their trial in front of Galactic Federation and later, decision to pose as Lilo's newest pet just to make it difficult for the former and Pleakley to capture the latter, showing that he has morals and standards more than he let on.
  • He saved Lilo from Gantu.
  • He helped repair Lilo and Nani's house after destroying it.
  • He became friends with Pleakley, though he initially worked with Pleakley because the Grand Councilwoman ordered it. He decides not to kill Pleakley even after he is fired, even though he kept getting in his way.
  • While Pleakley and Stitch are better, he is the only one who could save Lilo allowing him to pass the in-story baseline.

Stitch Has a Glitch[]

  • He built a machine to recharge Stitch's molecules, thus saving his life.

Stitch: The Movie[]

  • Jumba hides his experiment container with Pleakley so that his Experiments won't be found by Gantu but only discovered Experiment 625's pod.

Lilo and Stitch: The Series[]

  • He helped round up the 624 experiments scattered across Kawai.
  • He came up with a plan to stop Richter from destroying the world.
  • He helped save the Earth from an asteroid.
  • He helped defeat 627.
  • While he was corrupted by Angel, he did not do so willingly but because he was brainwashed.

Leroy and Stitch[]

  • While he did make an experiment for Hämsterviel, it was only because he was being forced to do it, though he also had personal reasons for not agreeing to do so in addition of not wanting to aid a villain.
  • He lied to Pleakley that he never wanted to see him again to make sure that he was not killed by Hamsterviel.
  • He programed a failsafe into Leroy, which lead to the defeat of both him and Hamsterviel for good.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • He has some petty moments, such as making an entire new dangerous experiment just because Stitch was annoying him.
  • He can be reckless at times. For instance, he created a uflazium incubator while fully aware of the fact that it was highly explosive.
  • He threatened to poke Pleakley's eye out after the latter found out about 627.
  • He used to be a bad guy and while he is mostly a good guy after his redemption he did decide to create 627, as noted above, though he regrets this and helps stop him. He does still describe himself as an evil genius though he isn't really evil.
  • He created over six hundred genetic experiments, with both Stitch: The Movie and Lilo and Stitch: The Series dealing with the consequences of that. (To Jumba's credit, it was not entirely his fault as Dr. Hamsterviel decided to steal the experiments which eventually resulted in the experiment pods being scattered throughout Hawaii, and not all of them were truly dangerous)

Trivia[]

  • He is currently the only Lilo and Stitch character to be Inconsistently Admirable.
  • His live-action remake counterpart doesn’t count as he’s more evil and never redeems himself, though that could change in a sequel.
