The healthy human mind doesn't wake up in the morning thinking this is its last day on earth. But I think that's a luxury, not a curse. To know you're close to the end is a kind of freedom. Good time to take... inventory. Outgunned. Outnumbered. Out of our minds. On a suicide mission. But the sand and rocks here stained with thousands of years of warfare... they will remember us. For this. Because out of all our vast array of nightmares this is the one we choose for ourselves. We go forward like a breath exhaled from the earth. With vigor in our hearts and one goal in sight: We. Will. Kill him.
~ Captain Price's speech in Just Like Old Times.
Prisoner #627. I'm coming for you, Makarov.
~ Price to Makarov in the opening scene of Dust to Dust.

Captain John Price is the main protagonist of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare original sub-series. He is a British SAS captain and sniper who later reformed into Task Force 141, having participated in the Second Russian Civil War and World War III. He played a pivotal role in stopping the Russian Ultranationalists and the Four Horsemen: Imran Zakhaev, Victor Zakhaev, Khaled Al-Asad, and his arch-nemesis Vladimir Makarov, from destroying the west during the Second Russian Civil War and World War III.

He was voiced by Billy Murray in the games. In Find Makarov: Operation Kingfish, he was portrayed by David Kinsman.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Admirable?[]

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare[]

  • Helped MacMillan in an assassination attempt against the dangerous terrorist Imran Zakhaev in Pripyat.
  • Saved the injured MacMillan and helped him escape from Pripyat.
  • Alongside Gaz and the newly-recruited Soap, they boarded a ship containing a nuclear warhead and sunk it. He also saved Soap from falling to death at some point during the mission.
  • He deeply cares about his men, especially Soap who became his protégé, and is willing to avenge their death when they all died at some point.
  • Went to Russia to rescue the Russian loyalist Nikolai along with Sergeant Kamarov's help.
  • Raided Khaled Al-Asad's safehouse, interrogated him, and then killed him as punishment for the death of thousands of US Marines, which was deserved.
  • Tried to stop and capture Zakhaev's son Victor but failed when the latter killed himself with hopes of his father avenging him.
  • When Zakhaev launched missiles to kill thousands of people, Price and his team went to the military base to disarm the nukes and successfully foiled his plans.
  • Passed his gun to Soap when the two were downed after Zakhaev blew up the bridge and killed Gaz, allowing Soap to kill Zakhaev and put an end to his villainy.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2[]

  • In Operation: Kingfish, Price was tasked to stop and assassinate Makarov for the first time, but the operation failed and Price was captured and imprisoned to a gulag by Makarov.
  • After escaping from the gulag thanks to Soap, he launched an SLBM to generate an EMP in Washington D.C. which ended up saving Foley, Dunn, Ramirez, and the other soldiers who were holding out during the siege of the White House by the Russians.
  • Although the SLBM he launched killed US personnel, it was fully unintended as Price only intended to jam Russian technology to help the Americans.
  • After finding out Roach and Ghost were betrayed and killed by General Shepherd who wanted to get rid of loose ends involving his role in World War III, he and Soap traveled to Afghanistan to stop and kill him out of honor and for killing Roach and Ghost, whom Price cared about. He was also aware that this will put Task Force 141 to get disavowed for killing a powerful US general, but still did it to make Shepherd pay for his crimes.
  • Beat Shepherd to stop him from killing Soap.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3[]

  • Along with Nikolai, he took Soap to a safehouse and helped him recover from his wounds after their confrontation with Shepherd.
  • When he sees a group of civilians running away from the chaos, he orders his men to hold fire.
  • Went to Africa to interrogate and killed the militia's leader Waraabe, a "nasty of piece of work" and cruel man who committed genocide against his own people and helped Makarov smuggle chemicals into Europe to start a chemical warfare. He also called out Waraabe for his crimes by telling him "this is for the boys at Hereford" before killing him as a mean to avenge the death of his men.
  • When Soap's wounds reappeared at Prague after their failed assassination against Makarov, he carried him through the battlefield only for him to die in front of him, which devastated Price, who mourned Soap's death by giving him his signature weapon as respect.
  • Was willing to trust Yuri after he explained to him that he used to be a friend of Makarov but betrayed and tried to stop him.
  • Raided Makarov's safehouse along with Delta Team to rescue President Vorshevsky and his daughter and have him end World War III and sign a peace treaty between the United States and Russia.
  • Raided Hotel Oasis along with Yuri to finally stop and kill Makarov to make him pay for his crimes and avenge the death of his men.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • He is a mercenary and an assassin who is willing to resort to questionable methods to achieve his gaols and kill his enemies, which is too anti-heroic for NPG.
  • He has a lot of lethal and aggressive moments, such as him killing villains or torturing Al-Asad and Waraabe even if they deserved it.
