Jiraiya is a major character in the Naruto anime and manga series.
He was titled the Legendary Sannin alongside Tsunade and Orochimaru by Hanzo the Salamander. He later mentored Nagato, Yahiko and Konan as well as Minato Namikaze, the future Fourth Hokage as well as eventually mentoring Naruto Uzumaki.
He is voiced by Hochu Otsuka in Japanese, and by David Lodge in English.

What Makes Him Admirable?[]
- Fought for Konoha in the Second Great Ninja War alongside Tsunade and Orochimaru.
- Tried to defeat Hanzo the Salamander in order to protect their men.
- Mentored Nagato, Yahiko and Konan so that they can save themselves from incoming threats.
- Mentored Minato Namikaze and his team and inspired him to be Hokage.
- Took up duties of being godfather to Naruto due to his former student's request.
- Tried to talk down Orochimaru from defecting from Hidden Leaf, even attempting to stop him.
- Protected Naruto from his and Minato's enemies from the shadows.
- Established a spy network encompassing several locations, so that Konoha could be forewarned of any threats.
- Decided to mentor Naruto into a responsible adult.
- Protected Konoha from Orochimaru's forces during the latter's attack on the village.
- Saved Naruto from getting kidnapped due to his tailed beast by Itachi and Kisame, and also stopping Itachi from mentally torturing Sasuke.
- Decided to recruit Tsunade as the Fifth Hokage, refusing the post himself realizing he couldn't do a good job due to his laziness.

- Despite wanting Naruto to abandon following Sasuke, Jiraiya readily accepted Naruto's decision to save him and decided to train him for 3 years against Orochimaru and Akatsuki.
- In the anime, Jiraiya, alongside Naruto and Sakura help liberate Fuma Clan from Orochimaru's tyranny.
- Helped Naruto control the Nine Tails when he tried to escape his seal.
- Warned Tsunade and Kakashi about the weakened Nine-Tails Seal, leading them to assign Yamato to keep Kurama under control.
- After Hidan and Kakuzu's defeat, Jiraiya proposed to infiltrate the Rain Village to stop Pain and the Akatsuki.
- Realizing Pain is his old student Nagato, Jiraiya tried to reason with him to stop attacking Naruto.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He is way too perverted to be Near Pure Good as he not only measured Tsunade’s breasts accurately, but also got kicked out of multiple hot spring spots for stalking on unaware women.
- Has several jerkish moments with Naruto, Tsunade and Ebisu (although they are mostly played for laughs).
- During some moments, Jiraiya was extremely harsh to his allies, like when Naruto was trying to learn Summoning Jutsu, Jiraiya threw him in a cliff, so that Naruto can summon toads in the heat of the moment, and threatening Tsunade to kill her if she tried to go back on her word.
