You stole the cigarette. THE RICIN CIGARETTE! You had him steal it off of me! And all for Mr White! He poisoned Brock! He poisoned Brock and you - you, helped him.
~ Jesse confronting Saul about the ricin cigarette.
Yeah, Mr. White! Yeah science!
~ Jesse's most famous quote.

Jesse Pinkman is the deuteragonist of the crime drama series Breaking Bad, the main protagonist of its 2019 sequel film El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie, and a minor character in its prequel/sequel series Better Call Saul.

He is a meth cook and the on and off best friend and partner of Walter White who is blackmailed into partnership by him. As the show goes on, Jesse becomes increasingly troubled by his own actions and Walt's ruthlessness.

In all of his appearances, he was portrayed by Aaron Paul.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Admirable?[]

  • Before the series, he took care of his aunt Ginny while she had cancer.
  • He gets kicked out of his parents' house because he takes the fall for a joint that belongs to his brother.
  • After finding out that Walt has cancer, Jesse sympathizes with him because of the situation with his aunt and gives him advice on how to deal with it.
  • He tries to warn Walt about Emilio and Krazy 8.
  • Even though he forces it on Walt, he refuses to murder Krazy 8, who is trapped in his house.
  • He ruins a day visiting his house so he and Walt won't get caught.
  • He is shocked by the death of Tuco's henchman No Doze, who is beaten to death.
  • After Tuco leads both him and Walter outside after they attempt to poison him, he hits Tuco with a rock before he can kill Walter, and as they are struggling on the ground, Jesse grabs Tuco’s pistol from behind and shoots him in the abdomen, indirectly helping Hank in finally ending Tuco for good.
  • Tries to warn Walt against driving an unfamiliar vehicle after escaping from Toco.
  • After they got stranded in the desert, Jesse assured Walter he would see to it that his family got his share.
  • He is upset that Walt is asking to pay back the money stolen from Skinny Pete by two meth addicts, even telling him to take it out of his paycheck.
  • After going to the house of Spooge and his wife, he acts protective of their son after seeing how neglected he is and calls the police to attempt to give him a shot at a healthier home.
  • He is shocked by Spooge's death by his wife even weeks later.
  • After Badger is arrested, Jesse refuses to consider Saul Goodman's suggestion to have him killed and instead sacrifices 80 thousand dollars to keep his friend out of prison.
  • After Combo is murdered, he asks Walt to stop the distribution.
  • Accepts a lot of guilt for Jane's death, which leads him to go through a journey of remorse and the need for rehab.
  • He takes care of Walt when he freaks out over the idea of a fly possibly contaminating their lab.
  • Though he was initially willing to sell meth to Andrea Cantillo, he refused to do so after learning that she had a young son named Brock.
  • When he found out Andrea’s younger brother, Tomas, an 11 year old child, was manipulated by the Rival Dealers to kill Combo, he goes the extra mile to make sure the kid is free from the gang.
  • After finding out that Gus Fring's men had killed a child, Jesse tried to avenge the boy with no concern for his own safety. Even more heroic is that the boy in question murdered his best friend.
  • Though he killed Gale, it was largely to protect Walter since Gus was going to have him murdered as soon as Gale learned his formula. Jesse was also visibly remorseful about his actions and tried to convince Walt to to go to the DEA.
  • Even when he wasn't with her Jesse financially supported Andrea and Brock.
  • He hosts junkies and homeless people in his house and orders them meals, not even impressed when Mike catches one of them stealing from him.
  • He made it clear to Gus that he wouldn't cook for him if Walter was killed, even after Walter abused Jesse in his own home.
  • He saves Mike Ehrmantraut's life after he is shot by Joaquin Salamanca in Mexico.
  • He refuses to sign off on Gus killing Walt even after Walt leads the DEA to Gus' lab.
  • When Brock is poisoned Jesse tries to console a distraught Andrea.
  • He spares Walt's life and works together with him to kill Gus after Walt manipulates him into thinking he is innocent of poisoning Brock and that Gus is the real culprit. He also felt guilty for pulling a gun on him.
  • He stopped Mike from killing Walt multiple times.
  • He buys Walt a watch for his 51st birthday.
  • When Walt doesn't want to contribute to the hazard pay for Mike's guys in prison Jesse offers to let them take it out of his cut.
  • He is the only one who advocates for sparing Lydia when Walt and Mike want her dead.
  • After Todd murders a boy in front of him, Jesse decides to leave the business even after Walt's threats not to give him his share.
  • He tries to give half of his money to the parents of the boy Todd killed and the other half to Mike's granddaughter, proves that he condemns Mike murder. after this fails he throws his money to the poor, although in practice this results in his arrest.
  • After learning that Walt poisoned Brock, he works with Hank Schrader to bring him to justice for his crimes. He also testifies to them about his involvement.
  • In addition to fear for his own life he acts as Jack Welker's meth slave partly to protect Andrea and Brock as Jack put them under threat if Jesse refused to co-operate and is distraught when Jack orders Todd to kill Andrea as punishment for his failed escape attempt.
  • He defeats Todd by strangling him to death with his chains with the intent of avenging the 3 people that Todd killed (Drew Sharp, Andrea Cantillo and Todd's personal cleaning lady Sonia). Although he kills Todd brutally, it is a logical response to his abuse and to the fact that he killed his ex-girlfriend, so Todd deserved to be killed due to everything he has done.
  • Doesn't kill Walt when the latter wanted to kill him in their final meeting, partly out of respect for him and partly to finally refuse his manipulation.
  • He asks to talk to his parents before running away from justice.
  • So that Skinny Pete and Badger don't get arrested for helping him, he decides to continue alone.
  • After he is released he tries to get to Alaska in order to start a new life and even though he is on the run from justice, he has already testified for Hank and Steve who were killed, which leaves him forced to flee.
  • All in all, with much less resources than Walter White, Jesse stands out for his consistent acts of compassion culminating in his eventual redemption.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • He's committed many crimes such as attempting to sell meth to recovering addicts, killing Gale, assaulting multiple people, kidnapping Saul Goodman and attempting to kill him.
  • He is highly responsible for helping Walt become a drug kingpin.
  • He worked for/helped Gustavo Fring, a ruthless drug kingpin, and committed a great number of crimes to assist him in achieving his goals, up to and including murder.
