Jerry Smith is one of three tritagonists of the Adult Animated franchise Rick and Morty. He is the usually insecure and incompetent patriarch of the Smith family.

What Makes Him Admirable?[]

Saved his wife, Beth, from her mythologue by placing her brain scanner on a version of himself who respected her.
Distracted Phoenixperson long enough for Space Beth to shut him down.
Used an invisible garbage truck to perform various heroic deeds, such as stopping a criminal from hurting an old lady.
Helped give the "unproductive" children of Gaia a purpose and taught them about camping.
Helps Rick take down Jennith Padrow-Chunt's conspiracy by infiltrating its base.
Beat up Pissmaster for stalking his family and sexually harassing his teenage daughter, despite Pissmaster appearing to be an intimidating villain at first glance.
Saved 30 billion innocent lives by destroying a planet full of Hitlers. While he did this mostly for recognition and fame, he still shows a degree of joy in the lives he has saved.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

Though he's rarely as heinous as Rick or even Morty, he is still on & off, having his antagonistic moments.
Is arrogant and selfish at multiple times. As a superhero, he shows more interest in his fame and recognition then actually saving lives. Another example is after writing an anonymous hit-selling book, he demands recognition for his accomplishments. He also tried to use anti-gravity shoes to cheat, gamble and show off his basketball skills to a group of athletes.
He has a desperate need to be liked which can make him go to extreme proportions. This was greatly showed when he held a group of aliens hostage and demanded them to steal his penis after previously refusing to sacrifice himself for their cause.
Is somewhat controlling of Beth and threatens suicide if she ever leaves him.
His hatred and envy towards Rick motivates him to remove him from the family, especially in earlier seasons. At one point, he wanted to turn him into the Galactic Federation so him and his family could be spared then told Beth either he or Rick would have to leave the family. After being divorced, he was willing to lure out Rick to a group of criminals to have him killed so he could have his family back, only changing his mind when Rick was nice to him.
Is often very cowardly multiple times and at one point locked his wife out of their car when a homeless man was attacking her.
Despite being warned not too, he helped the alien Glootie set up a dating app which caused a relationship turmoil throughout the world.
Out of his own stupidity, he let a baby alien die that he was supposed to help rescue.
In Season 1 and/or Season 2 Jerry, his previous alternate versions had shown some corrupting qualities that include:
- Was abusive towards Snowball, partially causing his misanthropy.
- Was almost willing to let Pluto disintegrate out of his own ego and embarrassed Morty in front of everyone when he tried to warn him.
- Showed more concern out of his coin collection than his son and father-in-law being kidnapped.
- Is possibly willing to have his Rick killed to live with Doofus Rick.
