Jacob Jeffery Peralta, often known as simply Jake Peralta is the main protagonist of the NBC sitcom Brooklyn 99. He is a a dubious but intelligent police detective working for the 99th Precinct in Brooklyn.

What Makes Him Admirable?[]
- Unlike most sitcom protagonists, he is actually fighting crime, putting him above the standard heroism most sitcom characters have.
- Over the series, he has arrested hundreds of criminals.
- Whenever he is bested in the pretend heists, he accepts his defeat with dignity.
- He is arguably the most empathetic member of the 99th precinct.
- While he was hostile to Holt at first, the two eventually became close friends.
- He showed sympathy towards criminals after being falsely arrested.
- He helped out the mob boss Jimmy Figgis behind bars.
- He put together an elaborate heist for the 99 before he retired.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He has several moments of being petty, childish, reckless, preventing him from being NPG.
- He rarely takes his job seriously, which often causes problems for the team.
- There are several instances where he neglects the needs of the team to follow an unlikely hunch, much to their displeasure.
