~ Jacket's inner thoughts after wiping out the Russian Mafia in the digitical comic |
Jacket also known as The Mask Maniac is one of the main characters of the Hotline Miami series, serving as the protagonist of the first game and a reccurent character in the second game, as well as a playable character in the game's level editor.
Originally part of a US special forces unit known as the Ghost Wolves during the Hawaiian Conflict, Jacket eventually signs up for a patriotic movement known as 50 Blessings three years after the death of his best friend and comrade, Nicke. Soon after, through strange phone calls left on his answering machine, Jacket takes on several jobs which involve killing many criminals tied to the Russian Mafia and donning several animal masks along the way, all while seemingly losing his grip on reality.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Admirable?[]
- It’s clear he genuinely valued Nicke as a friend, even keeping in contact with him after they were both sent back home.
- He, alongside the other ghost wolves, manage to take down an entire Russian camp during the Hawaiian conflict, with even The General claiming the mission was impossible.
- It’s mentioned by the leader of D company, that they’ve been trying to take over the camp for weeks, and have suffered heavy casualties, meaning Jacket undeniably saved several lives by clearing out the camp.
- He helps the ghost wolves take down a power plant, that was stated to be a suicide mission, that was completely impossible.
- He attempted to thank Beard for saving his life, by extending his arm in gratitude.
- Years later, after Nicke had been killed by a bomb dropped on San Francisco by the Soviet Union, Jacket begins receiving phone calls telling him to go to certain locations, and upon realising they’re full of Russian cartel members, he kills everyone inside, as revenge for his friend. He continues to repeatedly do this throughout the game on many occasions.
- After murdering the producer (a snuff filmer, with connections to the Russian cartel), he finds a woman he was keeping captive, and rescues her, bringing her back to his apartment, and giving her a place to sleep.
- After the woman he rescued is killed by Richter, he breaks into his apartment, gets his clothes and goes to kill Richter for murdering her.
- He chooses to spare Richter, after hearing what he has to say.
- After finding out the calls were traced to a club with ties to the Russian cartel, he goes to the club to retrieve a location for the Russian cartel HQ, killing everyone inside in the process.
- He then goes to the Russian Cartel’s HQ, and kills everyone inside, including the leaders of the Russian Cartel, rendering it completely powerless for several years.
- After he’s arrested, a riot happens at his prison, and he’s the only one to stay put in his cell, presumably believing now that the Russian cartel is powerless, his battle is completely over.
- Despite never saying anything or showing his face, he has a clear personality that can be seen via his actions and what is said about him by other characters.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He is way too lethal to be NPG, having the highest body count in the series, with well over 300.
- He also takes sadistic enjoyment out of killing Russian Cartel members.
- He’s clearly xenophobic towards Russians, despising them for killing his best friend.
- He crosses the MEH many times, by killing innocent police officers, who were simply doing their jobs, in pursuit of Richter.
Trivia[]
- His Payday 2 incarnation doesn't qualify as IA, as he comes from a different universe and has a different background.
