 Walter Hartwell "Walt" White, Sr., also known by his alias Heisenberg, is the main protagonist of the crime drama series Breaking Bad, one of the two overarching protagonists (alongside Mike Ehrmantraut) of its 2019 spin off El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie and a minor character in its prequel/sequel series Better Call Saul. He is a brilliant but underachieving chemist working as a high school chemistry teacher. One day, Walter is diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, which spurs him on to use his chemistry knowledge to cook and sell crystal meth to provide for his family after his imminent death. As the series progresses, however, White becomes more involved in the drug world, and the formerly mild-mannered unassuming teacher slowly transforms into a sinister and dangerous criminal mastermind driven more by ego and greed than his stated altruistic motives. He is famously portrayed by Bryan Cranston.
