FLAME ON!
~ Johnny's catchphrase and most famous quote
If you’re hearing this, I’m sorry, pal. Sorry that I’m gone. ‘Cause... well... I know how you feel when it comes to losing family. And that’s what you are to me. Family. So... if you’re thinking of this as my last will and all... I’m not leaving you my sports cars or stuff like that... I’m leaving you the best thing I ever had... My spot on this team. A place in this family. The best sister, two brothers, niece, and nephew a guy could ask for. They— We all love you, Pete. So? You up for it, bro? We’re all here for you.
~ Johnny's message to Spider-Man after his apparent demise

Jonathan Lowell Spencer "Johnny" Storm better known as The Human Torch is one of the most recognizable characters from the Marvel Universe. He is one of the members of the ever-iconic Fantastic Four, who gained mutate abilities after being exposed to cosmic rays in a trip to observe unusual space activity. Johnny gained the ability to light himself on fire and manipulate it, becoming the second Human Torch after Jim Hammond and going on to be one of the most well-known heroes of his time. He is a reckless, mischievous superhero who enjoys tormenting the Thing - although incredibly self-centered and a little egocentric Johnny is still heroic and will fight to the death to protect his friends and family, as well as what he views as his - much like Spider-Man, Johnny is prone to mocking villains, sometimes providing a rather useful distraction, of course he can also get himself (and others) in trouble due to this trait as well.

He was created by the late Stan Lee, the late George Klein, the late Christopher Rule and the late Jack Kirby.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Admirable?[]

  • While Johnny and Ben were working to stop the Annihilation Wave from crossing over to Earth, the Cult of the Negative Zone attacked the Baxter Building and unleashed a near infinite army of Annihilus' soldiers, forcing Johnny to defend the powerless Ben and the kids as Franklin used his powers to push them and said army into the Negative Zone.
  • In Godzilla he would attempt to stop the rampagint kaiju.
  • Once there, the only way to stop the Insectoid army from crossing over to Earth and destroying all of humanity was for the portal to be locked with a randomized code, and while Ben wanted to make the sacrifice himself, Johnny pushed him through the portal and stayed behind himself, securing the safety of his family and of the entirety of mankind as he took a final stand against Annihilus' army and fought them off until he was overwhelmed, and subsequently killed after refusing to give Annihilus the code.
  • Johnny's aparent demise would greatly affect the team, and would inspire them to make the world a better place by forming the Future Foundation to improve the future, with Spider-Man joining to honor Johnny and even Doom becoming a member.
  • After being revived, and after spending some time in prison, he escaped with the aid of the Light Brigade, managing to open a portal back to Earth with Annihilus' cosmic control rod and gathering the team by drawing his iconic 4 with flames in the sky.
  • During this battle, Johnny took control of one of the Annihilation Wave's ships and used it to fight off the Kree Army invasion before the inhumas asked to finish them off and Galactus arrived to destroy the fleet.
  • He has been judged as worthy by the Progenitor.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • To put it simply, he is a HUGE jerk, he's easily up there alongside Iron Man and Deadpool for biggest jerks on Marvel, seeing as he's, in spite of being genuinely funny and well-intentioned, incredibly rude and disrespectful to almost every hero he interacts with, even close friends like Spider-Man and other members of the Fantastic Four, constantly going out of his way to be a mischievous prankster and often crossing multiple lines, getting in real trouble with his friends and family. One of his most corrupting qualities is his horrendous treatment of The Thing, which while has improved considerably, is still present. In one of his worst moments, he intentionally tampered with the equipment in Reed's lab, which by itself is already incredibly reckless given that Johnny doesn't understand most of Reed's work and could genuinely cause problems by messing around which is proven: When Reed worked on a cure for Ben from his condition as the Thing, Johnny's interference caused the antidote to instead horribly mutate Ben into a gross mix of human and rock, which was shown to cause him great physical pain and also left an impact on both Ben and Reed who blamed himself for the failed test. While Ben nowadays is very content as the Thing, that wasn't the case back then and Johnny messed up the chance he had to go back to normal and kept it as a secret for multiple years, with Ben only finding out because they swapped bodies and not because Johnny told him. He also has multiple other moments, such as during his time as Spider-Man's roomate, he was quite inconsiderate of Peter's personal space as he constantly threw large parties and got into bed in a state of undress.
  • He is also a huge flirt with women, which while mostly in good fun, has reached at times some bad degrees, with other women in the superhero community avoiding him. Johnny also once got together, with Alicia Masters, Ben's ex, which caused a rift between the two team members, as Johnny was going to marry Alicia even knowing how Ben felt, and while this Alicia turned out to be a skrull, Johnny had no knowledge of this and believed her to be the true Alicia and he was also shown to not have any guilt over it.
    • In one of his easily worst moments, when Doctor Doom got engaged and wanted to genuinely redeem himself, he invited the Fantastic Four to the wedding to make amends and put their rivalry behind them, treating them as proper guests with the utmost respect. In spite of all of this, Johnny went behind Doom and his team's back and slept with his fiance right before the wedding, which once revealed, caused Doom to call the wedding off and in a rage fall back into villainy, wich makes Johnny responsible for Doom still being an active threat in the world.

Trivia[]

  • Johnny is the only member of the core Fantastic Four to qualify as Inconsistently Admirable.
  • He is also the only version of the Human Torch to be IA, as most of his adaptations downplay most of his more negative aspects and leave him as just a well-meaning jerk, with most of his counterparts being NPG.
