| ~ Doofenshmirtz's catchphrase after being frequently defeated. |
Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz was formerly the main antagonist of the Disney Channel animated series Phineas and Ferb, a supporting character in Milo Murphy's Law, a cameo character in Hamster & Gretel, and the former arch-nemesis of Perry the Platypus.
Though he is one of the main antagonists of the show, Doofenshmirtz is actually put in the situation to add comedic tensions. He has several quirks in the series: whenever Perry breaks into his base, he says something sarcastic, such as "Perry the Platypus, how completely unexpected, and by 'unexpected' I mean 'completely expected'!". On one occasion he actually makes up a word to counteract this while meeting Perry, "Perry the Platypus, how completely unpredictable, and by 'unpredictable' I mean… 'dictable'." Another notable quirk is his tendency to put the "-inator" suffix at the end of names for his evil creations.
Despite the fact that he is one of the main antagonists of the show, Doofenshmirtz plays an anti-heroic role at times. He helped Phineas and Ferb and the Resistance defend the Tri-State Area from his 2nd Dimension counterpart as well as Danville from the Red Skull, MODOK, Venom and Whiplash. One of his most redeeming qualities is his genuine love for his daughter, Vanessa, to the point where he travelled all over the world with Major Monogram and Perry to get her back. Aside from this, Doofenshmirtz is completely oblivious to most things despite being a scientist. He has virtually no perception of Perry without his hat, even when his 2nd Dimension counterpart makes it completely clear to him, and is incredibly ignorant to the fact that his daughter tries to reveal his evil nature to his ex-wife. Milo Murphy’s Law reveals him to be none other than the legendary hero and founder of time travel, Professor Time.
He is voiced by the series co-creator Dan Povenmire. In the Japanese dub from the series, he is voiced by Yohei Tadano.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Admirable?[]
In General[]
- Even in his villainous roles, he is always affable and genuinely respectful to Perry and displays kindness to his owners Phineas and Ferb as well.
- Although he did have abusive parents during his childhood, he doesn't seem to be abusive to his daughter Vanessa and is shown to care about her a lot, meaning he was never hypocritical about his tragic past.
- While he was once a villain who hated Perry the Platypus and wanted to take over the world, he subverted this later on and teamed up with the heroes (even Perry the Platypus) to defeat the villains in the franchise, such as Super Super Big Doctor (who did things that were similar to what he did in the past) and Aloyse Von Roddenstein (who tried to make the whole world become a cold ice age).
- He even created the Chicken Replaceinator, which helped him and Vanessa go back to Earth.
- He also helped the heroes defeat Red Skull when he tried destroying the Tri-State Area though that was after being betrayed by him.
- Even though he usually appears more on B plot than A plot, he still stands out for having admirable standards.
Original Series[]
- In one episode, he finds a stray cat and decides to adopt it. Despite the cat creating trouble, he almost fell off but only to be save by Doofenshmirtz. Later on he learned that the cat is belong to a kid, which he decides to return it.
- In "Last Day of Summer", after realizing that his Do-Over-inator is creating rifts in the space time continuum, he helps the heroes fix this.
- In "The OWCA Files" he given up evil and try to be an secret agent thus redeeming himself and nullifying his On & Off status.
- He apologizes to Perry for replacing him with Peter the Panda, as his nemesis, showing how much he missed having him.
Milo's Murphy Law[]
- He is revealed to be behind the identity of Professor Time, showing that he has redeemed himself more and promises to only make inators for good further.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He spent the majority of his screen time until "Last Day of Summer" being a villain, committing several crimes and setting up the heinous standards of the franchise.
- Despite getting rid of his grudge against Perry as the series goes on, he hardly ever showed remorse for a lot of his crimes such as endangering the universe, trying to kill anybody that can’t make up their minds, brainwashing several people into making him ruler of the Tri-State Area, or any of the times he kidnapped, tried to kill, or made Perry experience his suffering.
- He is far too incompetent to be NPG since he consistently screws up in his plans and sometimes causes destruction.
- Even as a hero in Milo Murphy's Law, he is still a bungler as one of his superhero alter-egos in the episode Sick Day, Do-Gooder Doof, creates inators and inventions to help people, only for them to go wrong and Perry the Platypus having to intervene to self-destruct the inventions, later leading to the Forsaken Perry Arc once he discovered what the latter was doing.
- "Lord of the Firesides" showed that his negligence in handling his Inators can be dangerous, having unwittingly turned Fireside Girls against each other for a time.
- He is anti-heroic and egotistical since most of his heroic deeds are self-serving and he wants to be put in as much power as possible.
- Heinz is very jealous of Roger Doofenshmirtz and wants to become better than him by any means necessary. While Roger has many corrupt factors as the series progress and a huge part of Heinz's tragic backstory, the reason why he hates him are not for altruistic reasons.
- Despite his generally affable and honorable nature, he has plenty of moments where he can act like a jerk thoughout the series.
- He is quite mischievous since he tries to get Roger Doofenshmirtz in as many humiliating ways as possible for Doofenshmirtz's amusement.
- He tries to take over the world several times for reasons that were not altruistic.
- As shown in the events of the series' revival, Doofenshmirtz's attempts to grow out of his villainous ways turns out to be easier said than done, once again constructing inators for heinous purposes and therefore being On & Off.
- This justifies OWCA's decision to continue using Inator Alert even when he supposedly retired in "Act Your Age".
- In his old age, he was jealous over several people having mid-life crisises and makes several attempts to mimick them, almost falling back to villainy in the process had it not been for Perry snapping him out of it.
Trivia[]
- He is only the character in Phineas and Ferb to be both Inconsistently Admirable and Heinous.
