“ | I believe in Harvey Dent! | „ |
~ Harvey's slogan. |
“ | You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain. | „ |
~ Harvey's most famous quote, and foreshadowing of his transformation into Two-Face. |
Harvey Dent, later known as Two-Face, is the tritagonist of the 2008 film The Dark Knight, the second installment of the trilogy of the same name.
Gotham's District Attorney, Harvey successfully, with the help of police and Batman, decreased crime in Gotham in a large scale, being nicknamed "the White Knight of Gotham", due to lacking Batman's questionable methods and need of hiding his identity. He planned on marrying Rachel Dawes and successfully captured the terrorist known as Joker along with Batman. However, following this arrest, Joker's greater-scope plan ended up working out, as he kidnapped Rachel and Harvey and put them in buildings with explosives. While Batman succeeded in saving him, the police couldn't save Rachel, and this, along with half of Harvey's face being burned, led him to lose his mind and turn in the vengeful criminal known as Two-Face, who wants to bring justice to those who somehow contributed to Rachel's death, and his "justice", is nothing more than pure and random chance.
He was portrayed by Aaron Eckhart.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Admirable?[]
- He successfully arrested multiple kingpins and crime bosses in Gotham.
- He punched and knocked out a crime boss when he pulled out a gun during his trial.
- He helped Batman arrest Lau.
- He jumped to save Jim Gordon's life when the Joker tried to shoot him.
- He lied about being Batman and allowed himself to be arrested so Joker would stop killing people, and this also, unknowing to him, helped in arresting the Joker.
- He desperately cried to Batman that he shouldn't be saving him and that he should save Rachel, showing how much he cares for her.
- Although he became a villain at the end and was done under a false pretence, Batman and Gordon were able to make a positive legacy of him, in preserving him as the symbol of hope for Gotham and made success doing so.
- While not as admirable as Batman, he has less resources than him.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- When he interrogated one of Joker's henchman named Thomas Schiff, he got too wrathful by putting a gun on his head and claiming he'd kill him if he didn't talk. Although he turned out to be bluffing, it is still a wrathful moment.
- After his disfigurement and his conversation with Joker, he became Two-Face, a villain who wants to track down all those related to Rachel's death and use his coin to decide if they'll die or not. In this process, he killed 3 people, assaulted one cop (although they did deserve it), attempted to kill Batman, and attempted to kill Gordon's son.
- He held Gordon's family hostage so he could kill the person Gordon loves most as revenge for Gordon failing to save Rachel, even when Gordon explained why he didn't save her.
Trivia[]
- Though most of Harvey Dent's versions are fallen due to becoming Two-Face, this is the only who stands out as Dent to qualify as Inconsistently Admirable.
- He is the only The Dark Knight Trilogy character to be Inconsistently Admirable, though theoretically Joker is alongside him with the criteria.
