I protected you in high school, now I'm going to kick your little ass!
~ Harry's threat to Peter whilst fighting in his manor.
None of that matters, Peter. You're my friend.
~ Harry making up with Peter seconds before his death.

Harry Osborn, also known as The New Goblin, is the tritagonist of Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy.

He is the best friend of the titular main protagonist Peter Parker and when he thought his father got killed by Spider-Man, he seeks revenge by temporarily becoming a villain until he redeems himself.

He was portrayed by James Franco.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Admirable?[]

In General[]

  • Unlike Peter, he doesn't have to compete with the massive admirable standards of the MCU multiverse due to never crossing over to the MCU universe. Therefore he manages to stand out.

Spider-Man (2002)[]

  • He always stuck up and protected his friend Peter who was picked on and bullied at school for being a nerd.
  • During the World Unity Festival, he attempted to save Mary Jane from falling to her death, though he was knocked unconscious before he could reach her.
  • He held no hatred against his father for neglecting him throughout his childhood. When Norman pointed this out, he defended his father by saying he was a busy and important man and he understood the responsibilities he carried, even when Norman admits this was no excuse. The two then shared a tender hug, mending their relationship.
  • He promised to avenge his father's death when he thought he was innocent and murdered.

Spider-Man 2[]

  • He arranged Peter to meet with Dr. Otto Octavius, knowing Peter had been wanting to get a meeting with him.
  • He shouted at Dr. Octavius to shut down the fusion reactor to stop the chaos it was causing.
  • He initially refused to give Dr. Octavius the tritium for his fusion reactor because of the disaster it caused last time, only changing his mind when Otto threatened to kill him.
  • He told Dr. Octopus not to hurt Peter when he goes to find him so he could bring him Spider-Man.
  • When learning Spider-Man was Peter, Harry was greatly conflicted by this revelation and initially didn't consider taking revenge on Peter, only being influenced to do so by the hallucination of his late father and discovering his Green Goblin equipment.
  • He told Peter where Ock's hideout is so he could save Mary Jane from him.
  • He was in attendance at Mary Jane and John Jameson’s unsuccessful wedding.

Spider-Man 3[]

  • He decided to forget about the past to help Spider-Man defeat Venom and Sandman.
  • He prevented Sandman from killing Peter, arriving just before he's nearly crushed to death.
  • He helped Peter defeat Sandman.
  • He prevented Mary Jane from falling to her death.
  • He prevented Venom from impaling Peter by shielding him with his body, sacrificing his life in the process.
  • He forgave Peter for the things he said to him at his apartment and for scarring him, saying the only thing that mattered was that they were friends.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • He has several jerkish moments, notably becoming a villain in the third movie, such as:
    • Bragging to Peter about him never making a move on MJ. Even if it and Peter allowing him to do so instead excuses him for going out with his friend's crush, it was still jerkish to brag.
    • He dated Mary Jane simply because she was a popular girl at their school. He also acted rude towards her when she called her father a creep; while his offense is understandable, he neglected her when she overheard his father believing her to be a gold digger.
    • Accusing Peter of protecting Spider-Man, stealing both MJ and his father's love, and then angrily slapping him at a dinner party. Though he was drunk for the latter two.
    • His deal with Ock to get revenge on Spider-Man put Peter, before he realized they were one and the same person, and MJ in danger.
    • Taking the Goblin serum to get revenge on Peter for killing his father, refusing to at least listen to Peter's side of the story (especially since he now realizes his father was the Green Goblin who terrorized New York).
    • Attempting to kill Spider-Man without knowing for certain if he really did kill his father.
    • Slamming Mary Jane against a wall and threatening to kill Peter if she does not break up with him.
    • Breaking Peter's heart by forcing Mary Jane break up with him and making it seem it was Peter's fault for his mistreatment of her.
    • Mocking Peter when he entered his penthouse and engaging in a fight with him. Then, when the battle is over, he cowardly throws a bomb while Peter's back was turned, which Peter throws back at Harry, disfiguring half his face for which he blames Peter.
