I'm gonna kick your ass!
~ Hank Hill's famous threat

Get out! Get out! Get out! If you don't get out of that got-dang rat-hole now I'll get my circular saw, come down there, cut off all your fingers and toes! NOW MOVE! MOVE! MOVE!
~ Hank yelling at his friends and threatening them in The Texas Skillsaw Massacre.

Henry "Hank" Rutherford Hill is the main protagonist of the King of the Hill franchise. In the first thirteen seasons, he's a normal everyday propane and propane accessories salesman who lives in the state of Texas. As of season fourthteen, he's now retired and tries to adjust his new lifestyle.

He was portrayed by Mike Judge who also played Beavis and Butt-Head in Beavis and Butt-Head.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Admirable?[]

  • He's generally a selfless, honorable, and caring person.
    • He pretended to be Bill's ex wife Lenore to help him through a mental breakdown.
  • He stopped Peggy from enslaving Bill, telling her it's inhumane.
  • He and Dale help each other out when it comes to family issues; especially that has to do with their respective wives and sons.
  • Even at his absolute worst, he's strongly against corporal punishment on children. He, Bobby, and their neighbors were express their dissapointment at Peggy for nearly spanked Joseph when she falsely accused him for stealing a paddle.
  • Hank is also strongly against anyone under 21 drinking alcoholic beverages. He even stops the nearly 21 year old Luanne from drinking beer.
  • When Dale accidentally walked in front of a moving bullet, Hank jumped in front of him and took the bullet for him, showing that despite Dale's annoying antics, he still cares for him.
  • Along with Dale, Boomhauer, and Bill, Hank saved Peggy, Luanne, and many other women from a cult.
  • He saved Tammy from her pimp, which finally freed her from sex slavery.
  • When Hank and his friends fell off a boat, he jumped into the water and rescued them all.
  • He tried to end corruption in Arlen.
  • Even if his father doesn't love him, Hank made sure Cotton had extra money and love, and that he got care for his mental breakdown, so Hank loves his father at least. He sometimes allows Cotton to babysit Bobby since he knows that Cotton cherishes him.
  • He has Junichiro to forgive Cotton and the Hill brothers prevent Cotton from spitting the Japanese emperor's face.
  • When Elizabeth Strickland (Buck's now ex wife) and later Debbie Grund (Buck's late lover) tried to seduce Hank, he refused since he's already married. Showing that he's loyal to Peggy.
  • He and Peggy (excluding her tendencies to use corporal punishment and egoitism) became better role models for Luanne and Connie more than their respective parents.
  • He tried to warn Luanne about how suspicious Trip Larsen was.
  • Hank does not approve Luanne's relationship with her late ex-boyfriend Buckley at the start. Despite that, the Hank does not want the Buckley to be seriously harmed or killed.
  • He approves Luanne's relationship with Lucky (in which the latter pair are now married) and rightfully dissapointed at Peggy when he finds out she purposely have Lucky failed his GED test. Hank is also happy to see his great neice Gracie.
  • He teaches Bobby multiple life lessons throughout the series.
  • He and Peggy are supportive about Bobby's relationship with Connie more than Kahn (and lesser extent to Minh).
  • He temporary became a subsitute teacher in Tom Landry Middle School and inspired the students about importance, responsiblity, and creativity of workshop. Also as a foil to Peggy, he's very humble about his job and gained the students' genuine respect.
  • When Bill wanted to act like a jerk to Stroup to drive her away after realising he didn't love her Hank stopped him and forced Bill to be honest with her.
  • Convinced Hoyt to tell the truth and not let Lucky take the fall for his crime .He also agrees not to tell Luanne about her father's criminal activity when Hoyt asks and says he probably would have done that anyway.
  • He had committed other smaller heroic acts.
  • Even though it's in progresss, he develops some of open minded views such as respecting women's rights and eventually sees soccer as gender neutral sport rather than exlcusive to females.
  • Hank is so proud of Bobby about the latter's cookings skills to the point that the former completely shreds off his close mined views of cooking being exclusive to women. (If Hank haven't done that, he would still be a hypocrite because he grills meat.)
  • Despite Peggy stole the turkey that Bobby made, neither the latter nor Hank are angry about the former's actions. Instead, they are concerned about her well being.
  • He has G. H. to stop having sexist views of women.
  • Hank is rightfully angry at Bill of lying to the black community (from a local barbershop) about his martial status with Peggy.
  • In season 14 episode 8, he calls out Peggy for being insensitive about the situation of the Souphanousinphone family regardless of Minh and Kahn's flaws.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • Hank is very arrogant which is showcased multiple times.
  • He destroyed south Arlen.
  • In "Beer and Loathing", he guilt-tripped Peggy into breaking her non-disclosure agreement with Alamo Beer Company and was disappointed with her when it backfired on him. This a minor prevention because Hank only did this by the time he and his friends find out that the company was shipping toxic beer products to Mexico and endangers those who drink them.
  • He has several moments of being a jerk, especially towards Bill & Dale. (To be fair, some of the characters like Dale and Bill are no different if not worse.)
  • His prideful nature gets the best of him at times; especially that he thinks any hostile antagonists, like Chane Wassanasong, should play fair and yet he overlooks certain situations of their victims such as Bobby. This is one of the few valid reasons why Cotton looks down on him. Also he often ignores some of red flag moments that Bill causes as the series goes on; particularly when Bill makes unwanted advances on Peggy.
  • Hank is a homophobe and even hypocritical of calling out people for making homophobic remarks and/or jokes. Even though it's one of the few bigotries that Hank does not subverted, it's still too corrupt for him to be PG & NPG.
  • He kept Buck's corruption out of sight to prevent anyone to do anything about it.
  • He often tries to force Bobby to doing things he wants him to do rather than embrace certain hobbies that Bobby himself likes. Dale, who regularly respects Joseph's independence, even calls him out on that.
  • He overreacts about using charcoal for grilling food. It gets to the point he tries to forbid Peggy and Bobby from eat any food that was grilled from charcoal.
  • His infamous actions in "Keeping Up with Our Joneses" where his punishment for catching Bobby smoking is to make him smoke an entire pack causing his son to get addicted to smoking. This is also too corrupt to be PG & NPG. After Hank himself gets hooked again, he tempts Peggy into doing the same.
  • Bobby stated in season 14 episode 3 that when he was a child, Hank sometimes cares about propane more Bobby himself. It shows that Hank is not being consistent of being a good dad and even affects on Bobby's adult life. This is a slight minor prevention that Hank is at least not on Cotton's level of favoritism.
