Gundham Tanaka is a supporting character in Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair. He is titled the Ultimate Breeder, as in a person who breeds animals, but was once brainwashed into being a member of the Ultimate Despair, a highly destructive terroristic cult that spreads despair.

He is voiced by Tomukazu Sugita in both the anime and game. In the English dub of the game, he is voiced by Chris Tergliafera. In the English dub of the anime, however, he is voiced by Scott Frerichs.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Admirable?[]

  • He assists his classmates during the first three class trials.
  • He genuinely cares for his animals (Most notably his hamsters known as the Four Dark Devas of Destruction) as well as his fellow classmates.
  • Gundham manages to make a sacrifice for the survivors of chapter 4. He makes a deal with Nekomaru Nidai (or Mechamaru in this chapter) to fight to the death. He chose to do so to stop his classmates from dying of starvation.
  • During his execution he stands in-front of his hamsters, protecting them from a stampede of buffalos and other animals.
  • Although he only intentionally saved seven lives, his classmates could've died painfully. Therefore, he easily passes the Danganronpa admirable standards.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • He is quite mischievous, arrogant and somewhat egocentric. For example, he refers to his classmates as pathetic human beings and literally acts like he’s a god or a supernatural being of some sort, even if most of the time he is joking, this does still annoy his classmates.
  • While he made a sacrifice for his friends, he still acted recklessly by not confessing in his trial for killing Nekomaru so he could “test” his classmates. This makes him too reckless for NPG
