NOTE: This page is only about the manga and Brotherhood version of Greed and doesn't include Greed's admirable actions from 2003 anime version |
Greed is one of the Seven Homunculi and a major character from the Fullmetal Alchemist series. He is notable among his fellow homunculi for his independence, which led him to betray Father and work on his own. He is first introduced as an anti-villain but ultimately becomes an anti-hero, following his rebirth in the body of the Xingese prince Ling Yao.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Admirable?[]
- As a criminal, he offered a place of refuge and companionship for Chimeras that had been isolated from society, and deeply loved and cared about them despite him calling them his "possessions".
- While he made his chimeras capture Alphonse, Greed was not hostile to him and only wanted knowledge about immortality. He even offered to exchange information.
- After his resurrection, he gave Ling's information to the Elric brothers even though he didn't have to.
- When he killed his old friend Bido in Father's hideout and hearing Ling's speech, Greed regains his memories and mourns his friend.
- Attempts to ambush and defeat Fuhrer Bradley in rage for murdering his friends.
- Allies with Edward and the Chimeras and helps them in their plan to stop Father. While initially claiming a self-centred motivation, it's obvious he did this in revenge for them killing his former Chimera friends initially, and he quickly grows to care for doing the right thing.
- He saved Heinkel and Fu from Pride's attack.
- He expressed concern for the injured and advised them to stay in a safe place.
- Shortly before sacrificing himself, he comes to realize that what had driven his greed was his desire for emotional connections to other people.
- When he was absorbing by Father, Greed tells Ling to leave him as Father will consume him as well. After that Greed sacrificed himself, by reversing his Ultimate Shield to stop Father.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He was a criminal and a coward who escaped from confrontations many times.
- He ordered Alphonse to be kidnapped in Dublith.
- During his battle against Edward, Greed badly injured him.
- While he regrets it afterwards and had forgotten his memories, he killed Bido.
- Despite channeling it into a more positive outlook, he never drops his innate greed and proclaims a motivation for avarice as a partial motivation for going against father. Granted, he was created as the embodiment of greed and cannot deviate from it, so this is a minor prevention.
- Can still have moments of smugness and rudeness after his redemption.
