“ | Godzilla is like a hurricane, or a tidal wave. We must approach him as we would a force of nature. We must understand him, deal with him, perhaps even try to communicate with him. | „ |
~ Steven Martin on Godzilla. |
Godzilla is the titular main anti-heroic protagonist of the Godzilla Heisei era.
He was once a Godzillasaurus inhabited in Lagos Island before being mutated by a nuclear submarine. He grew to a massive 100 meter tall monster. He would later have an adopted son named Godzilla Junoir (alias Baby/LittleGodzilla). While he caused destruction across Japan, he would sometimes take out much bigger threats.
He was portrayed by the late Kenpachiro Satsuma. As Godzillasaurus, he was portrayed by Wataru Fukuda.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Admirable?[]
- As Godzillasaurus, he attacked and scared off the American army in defending his home, Lagos Island, as well as saving the Japanese army, including Yasuaki Shindo.
- As Godzilla, he destroyed the mothership, killing the Futurians before they could time travel back to 2204 and get away with their crimes.
- He would also severely wound their dragon, King Ghidorah, preventing him from terrorizing Japan any more.
- Feeling sympathy for Yasuaki Shindo when he begs Godzilla to kill him out of guilt, he honors Shindo in giving him the mercy kill by atomic breathing him at point blank.
- He adopted BabyGodzilla and took care of him on Baas Island.
- He did not mind several humans living on his island as long as they did not provoke him.
- He fought off SpaceGodzilla while trying his best in protecting his son.
- After SpaceGodzilla kidnapped his son, he became enraged and chased after his kidnapper to Japan.
- He teamed up with MOGUERA (who was a mech originally designed to combat Godzilla himself) in destroying SpaceGodzilla.
- He destroyed the Fukuoka Tower, reducing SpaceGodzilla's power. Then finally killing his evil clone for good, thus saving the world and his son.
- After Destoroyah severely wounded his son, he tries to give some of his energy into his son, before the latter succumbs to his injuries and dies.
- Enraged, he kills Destoroyah with the help of the military, preventing him from wiping all life on Earth.
- In terms of admirable standard, while he does have to compete with Mothra, who stopped a meteorite from crashing into Earth, Godzilla still easily meets the admirable standard by killing King Ghidorah, SpaceGodzilla, and Destoroyah, all of whom were planning to either conquer or destroy the world.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He is on-and-off as he spends most of his time as a destructive rampaging monster, and while he does dial down his villainy as the films progress, he does not deliberately protect mankind and his motivations for fighting other monsters are either just for pure thrill-seeking or self-preservation.
- He had no desire in saving the world from SpaceGodzilla or Destoroyah, only fighting them to protect his son, and he only fights Ghidorah out of self-defense, whom all three are the only actual threats he fights. This also makes him a hero-by-proxy.
- He can be lethal at times, like when he severed King Ghidorah's middle head with atomic breath and biting off Battra's throat before firing his atomic breath at the latter's wounds.
