~ The narrator describing Frisk at the end of their journey. |
Frisk is the main protagonist of the 2015 indie-game Undertale.
They are the eighth human to fall into the Underground. Their main goal is to escape the underground but they get into a lot of trouble by trying to get that goal due to only one human soul being left to open the barrier and free all monsters. Your choices matter in this game and will affect the underground in multiple different ways.
Their Good Ranking[]
What Makes Them Admirable?[]
In General[]
- While they are seen as a silent protagonist, they know the difference between right and wrong as seen through the dialogue of multiple characters such as Sans talking about them fleeing with a smile in the pacifist route and refusing to hurt anyone, them walking to Photoshop Flowey to stop him without player's input and while we don’t hear them say it or through dialogue, they ask questions and respond to others like when they asked Flowey why they are capturing their friends in the True Pacifist route along with others along with telling Monster Kid that they are a human. Their personality also shows visible changes in different routes with the True Pacifist run showing them being incredibly compassionate, the Genocide route showing them being cold and the neutral run having them just be silent with monsters commenting on their behavior. Along with this, Asriel wishes that they looked up to Frisk as a friend along with the ACT options being something that Frisk is thinking or doing as it is a choice that the player can do.
Neutral Route (all determinant)[]
- They are able to convince Toriel to let them go past them to go home through mercy and not fighting, they also are able to try and talk to her even if they can’t think of anything.
- Although it could be done through violence, Toriel was the one asking them to prove themself to be strong enough to survive the underground, so this is presumably accidental.
- They go through all of Papyrus’s puzzles while listening to Papyrus explain them and actively solving them.
- They can get a piece of the Snowman to fulfil his wish to travel the underground and eventually succed at the end of their adventure.
- They would go on to befriend Papyrus in his date/hangout, which would play a role in Undyne’s redemption.
- They save Monster Kid when they are hanging on a cliff.
- Although they can also run away instead, Undyne notes that they could have been scared of her.
- They splash water on Undyne to save her from burning up after sparing her in their battle.
- Even if they do fight Undyne, this is out of self defense and she already said that she was going to kill Frisk and all of humanity when escaping the Underground.
- When they go through hotland, they are able to get two lovers to confess to each other who didn't know how to, which is something they are both happy about.
- They would go on to defeat Mettaton, who they choose to spare him at helping him at getting ratings in his show, and he will choose to stay in the Underground as their star and thank Frisk.
- Although they have the option to kill him, this is done out of self-defense.
- When Frisk goes to the King’s castle, they have to go on to defeat Asgore which would save all of humankind from being killed. Frisk then also spare Asgore, who already felt genuine remorse for what he’s done and gains hope (Although only momentarily as revealed in his extended monologue as he almost instantly retracts it by saying "That's just a fantasy").
- Even if they choose to kill Asgore, this was something he asked them to do it so they would be able to leave the undergroung.
- After hearing and seeing what Flowey was going to do after he got the six human souls, they step forward to fight him, even though they don’t have their save file anymore.
- They would then go on to have the six human souls come back to their senses so that Frisk can defeat Flowey and stop them from destroying both monsterkind and humanity.
- They spare Flowey after their battle, which in return Flowey would tell them how to get a good ending; either by asking them to not kill anyone, or befriend Papyrus, Undyne or Alphys depending of criteria.
- Even if Frisk did choose to kill Flowey, he threatened to kill everyone that Frisk loves, so it’s not unjustified.
True Pacifist Route[]
- They choose to spare everyone they encountered in the underground through the entirety of the Neutral Route.
- When they befriend Undyne, they are able to redeem her without using any of their own resources by just bonding with them with Undyne not wanting to destroy humanity depending on how the run goes.
- They would go to Hotland to give Undyne’s letter to Alphys and after their hangout, they would try and help Alphys to be more confident in getting Undyne to go on a date with them.
- This would cause Alphys to open the True Lab to show Frisk the truth and spare the Amalgamates and due to Frisk’s actions of helping Alphys, she would free the Amalgamates to let them see their families.
- After this, they would go back to Asgore’s castle, only this time, all of the friends that they made on their journey would arrive to stop the fight between him and Asgore, partially as a result of their relationships with Frisk, before being ambushed by Flowey. Frisk then asks Flowey why they are doing this and tries to stop Flowey and gets saved by their own friends.
- Frisk would then face Flowey in his true form, Asriel Dreemurr and would stop him from taking control of the timeline. If Frisk is killed, they come back to life via sheer refusal and wanting to save their friends.
- They would then go on to save all of their friends from being soulless inside Asriel which would redeem Asgore in this route along with saving all of their friends from being without a SOUL.
- When Frisk talks to Asriel, they manage to redeem him throughout saving them and sparing him. Frisk also tells Asriel that they aren’t CHARA but Frisk. This would also have Asriel destroy the barrier and free all of the monsterkind to let them live on the surface. Asriel also calls Frisk someone that he should have looked up to as a friend.
- This redemption is also prevalent when Asriel turns back into a Flowey where he tells the CHARA to not reset and take away Frisk and the other monster’s happiness.
What Makes Them Inconsistent?[]
- While they do stand out for having character of their own with them being caring and nice, they are still too player-dependent as they can either be a pacifist, kill everyone or be a gray-zoned character, with the genocide route showing them being a genocidial maniac.
- They are on & off as they have the possibility of killing everyone in the underground and committing genocide, killing specific people along with other villainous actions that can leave the Underground worse than what it was.
- Even on True Pacifist route they have possibility of being jerk, like insult monsters and flee, or eat Snow Man's piece (that was meant to be with you to show him the world) right in front of him.
