Inconsistently Admirable Wiki

It is only here that I can control them. A family in balance. Day with night. Destruction, replaced by creation.
~ The Father to Anakin Skywalker.
You are the Chosen One. You have brought balance to this world. Stay on this path and you will do it again… for the galaxy. But beware… your heart…
~ The Father's last words, to Anakin Skywalker

The Father was a Force entity from the Star Wars series.

In the mysterious realm of Mortis there exists a trio of beings able to wield the Force in ways no known mortals of the galaxy can. The Father maintained balance between his Daughter and his Son, who expressed affinity to the light and dark side of the Force, respectively. The Father knew his days were numbered—facing his impending demise, he needed to find another to keep the balance. His goal was the same described in an ancient Jedi prophecy—the rise of a Chosen One who will bring balance to the Force. He later sacrificied himself to defeat the Son of Mortis.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Admirable?[]

  • From start to finish, it is his duty to maintain balance between the Light and Dark Sides of the force.
  • He sent a distress signal across the galaxy for 2,000 years in an attempt to find the Chosen One, which was found by Republic Admiral Nils Tenant who sent it towards the Jedi Council.
  • When his prophesied Chosen One, Anakin Skywalker, arrives on Mortis, he tries his best to be as polite as possible towards him.
  • While not well-intentioned, he puts Anakin to the test to see if he is the Chosen One by turning his children into creatures and having them capture Obi-Wan and Ahsoka, which succeeds when Anakin reverts his children into their regular forms when he chooses to join neither side.
  • Although he did break a promise he made earlier, he still wanted to learn more about the nature within Anakin and asked him to stay in Mortis to maintain the balance in the force. When Anakin rejected the offer, he was clearly upset and warned Anakin about the dangers to come in the galaxy if he were to leave, which unfortunately came true when Anakin turned into Darth Vader thanks to Palpatine's manipulation.
  • He tried to redeem his son by telling him to let go of the Dark Side, only fighting him after he rejected the chance.
  • He mourns his daughter's death and tells the Jedi to leave the world before the Son can get away and buries her corpse in a crypt.
  • Although he rejected Obi-Wan's offer to help stop the Son, it was for pragmatic reasons since he was worried that the Son would corrupt him, which eventually did happen. When he found out, he cleared Anakin's mind over this.
  • He tried to redeem his son a second time, and when he rejected the chance again, he tries to defend the Jedi from his growing powers.
  • He ultimately sacrificed himself by plunging the Dagger of Mortis into himself to prevent the Son from escaping and corrupting the whole galaxy, which would strip him from his force powers. After this, he reconciles with his son, who now shows remorse and is willing to atone for his actions before Anakin impales him, and he shows sympathy over his death.
  • In his dying moments and last words, he commends Anakin for bringing balance on Mortis and warns Anakin to watch out for his own desires in his heart, which shows that he tried his very best to prevent Anakin from falling. However, Anakin does not listen to this warning since he consistently keeps in touch with Palpatine who ultimately makes him Darth Vader as the story progresses and never even tries to reform from his own stubborn behavior anyway.
  • In Rebels, he guides Ezra Bridger to the World Between Worlds as soon as he discovers him.
    • Despite him being depicted as a mural, he clearly shows sentience since he is aware of Ezra and Sabine's presences and tries to protect the Daughter, the Son and the Loth-Wolfs before the temple collapses.
  • He posthumously succeeded in bringing balance to the force through a redeemed Anakin Skywalker who finally snaps out of his Sith persona and puts an end to Palpatine's rule in the galaxy once and for all. In the Disney Canon alone, he posthumously succeeded again, and this time ultimately, through Rey, who was trained by Anakin's children Luke and Leia and prevented Palpatine from taking over the galaxy again.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • He is very arrogant since he viewed himself as more than your average force user across the galaxy.
  • He is a horrible and undisciplined father towards his children, allowing them to do what he desires freely and refusing to punish them if they do what was wrong until it was too late. This resulted in the Son attempting to plunge the entire galaxy into the Dark Side, but he did show remorse for this so this is a minor prevention.
  • He lied to Anakin and his friends when he promised them to leave Mortis once his test is completed since he refused to let him and his friends leave the planet despite him promising to let them go earlier.
  • While it is an overstatement to say he was a horrible guide towards Anakin, he is still morally ambiguous since he admits to Anakin that he is neither good nor evil, just the one in the middle.
    • Thus it can be assumed he is a grey Jedi, a force user that is neither Jedi nor Sith with ambiguous qualities even by fans.
    • To drive this point home, he refused to fully side with the Jedi to defeat the Son just for this reason initially. Although it is indeed in his nature to not embrace Light or Dark side, it's too problematic for him to be even close to Pure Good.
  • He is also an extremist since he turned his children into mindless creatures in an attempt to test Anakin on how he can bring balance to the force, told Anakin to take care of the Daughter and Son despite being aware he is immortal and that Anakin can easily give into the Dark Side, and prevented Obi-Wan and Ahsoka from helping Anakin.

Trivia[]

  • His status as Inconsistently Admirable reflects on how flawed humans are in the real world, while his Daughter's status as Inconsistently Admirable reflects on how perfect religious Gods are in the real world.
  • He also serves as a symbol of what Anakin would become later on since he destroyed both the Jedi and the Sith while he already affiliated himself with neither alignment.
