I don't hate him. I loved him, until I figured out it hurts a lot less to just not care.
~ Chase about his father.
It's time to step out of the shadow.
~ Chase's goodbye with Foreman.

Chase was one of House's original team members, initially starting out as House's Yes Man and would follow his orders without question. Over time, Chase's loyalty to House would be threatened following several of House's bad judgment calls and selfish choices, this was only exacerbated when House fired him to prove a point to Wilson. Chase became more independent and questioning of House's judgement, proving his capably to be a great doctor and even outshining House on several cases. After receiving a realty check from a rival, Chase ultimately quits working for House and Princeton-Plainsboro in pursuit of higher positions.

He is portrayed by Jesse Spencer.

His Good Ranking:[]

Debatable Validations:[]

  • He follows House’s orders and partakes in House’s illegal methods but also with good intentions:
    • Breaking and entering into patients’ homes for information or environmental causes.
    • Violating and manipulating patient consent for treatment.
    • Performing risky or illegal treatments with the hope of curing patients.

What makes him Admirable?:[]

In General[]

  • He follows in House’s foot-steps and adopts his attention to detail, allowing him to find seemingly insignificant details that happen to be the underlying cause.
  • He has the second highest number of Eureka moments, correct diagnoses and patients saved, the first being House.
  • Every time House is away, Chase steps-up to fill his role and saves House’s patient:
    • When House left on a vacation to Singapore, Chase saves an elderly woman from insecticide poisoning.
    • After House and the team leave when they diagnosis a patient with a terminal disease, Chase is the only one to stay by his side and discovers a new symptom that points to a curable disease. Chase reveals the new symptom to the team and saves the man's life.
    • While House was busy treating Wilson’s cancer, Chase took the leadership role of the team and diagnosed a little girl with a heart tumor.
    • When House leaves with Wilson on a road-trip, Chase exacerbates his efforts into curing Dr. Treiber, and eventually finds the environmental cause. Something Treiber noted “House didn’t figure that one out.”
  • While he does fail the admirable standards to House, Chase still stands out compared to House and his teammates. He has less authority, fewer corrupting traits, far less life experience and medical knowledge, and less screen time compared to House. And despite possessing similar resources with his teammates, Chase stands out by having more Eureka moments, correct diagnoses and patients saved out of all of them.

Season 1-3[]

  • After his father abandoned him, Chase assumed the role of responsibility and single-handedly cared for his alcoholic mother and younger sister.
  • After House gives-up curing Rebecca Adler, Chase reinspires him by suggesting an obscure but safe x-ray of her leg to prove their diagnosis.
  • Stopped Dan from jumping off the hospital roof.
  • He has moments of genuine care with patients or their families:
    • He emphasizes with Luke, a teenage boy caring for his schizophrenic mother alone.
    • He puts his religious hatred aside and opens up to nun about his trouble past with religion.
    • Chase reassures Gabe that despite the latter’s estranged relationship with his father, his dad does care for Gabe.
    • Sympathizes with an 11 year old cancer patient and gives her tickets to the natural history museum.
    • He feels guilty for being distracted by his father’s death, causing him to misdiagnose Kayla’s ulcer, indirectly leading to her death. Even after all said is done, Chase begs her brother to sue him in an attempt to make amends.
  • Tried to stop House from injecting Mark without his consent.
  • Convinces Foreman's father to put his fears aside and tell his son he loves him.
  • He protects a little girl from House’s unnecessary surgery by properly deducing her to have a light allergy. Even after House dismisses and punches him, Chase insists and saves her.
  • Tried to find a way to help House after being misled to think he had cancer.
  • After Foreman makes a mistake that costs a patient their life Chase sympathizes with him and tries to make him feel better by pointing out that all of the team, even House were wrong.

Post Season 3[]

  • After House fires him, he still helps House by becoming a surgeon at Princeton and performing surgeries on House’s patients.
  • Despite initially starting as friends with benefits, Chase began to fall in love with Cameron. Even after she broke-up with him, Chase continued to advance their relationship by marrying her, and was heartbroken from their divorce.
  • Agrees to fix Nick's frontal lobe disinhibition after House pleads with him.
  • After hearing of “President” Dibala’s plans of genocide, he kills Dibala to prevent said genocide. As reported by the news, the conflict ended in the country and opened-up peace talks.
    • Furthermore he felt heavy guilt for killing Dibala. Despite his noble intentions, Chase recognized the act of murder still weighed heavily on him.
  • When Cameron returns to finalize the divorce, Chase is able to reconcile their problems and mends their relationship for the two part on good terms.
  • He helps Thirteen treat her friend from prison. Upon realizing how ill prepared they are, he drives them to the hospital to treat her. While he does engage Thirteen in a fight, it wasn’t without noble reason, as Chase didn’t want to risk her friend bleeding to death.
  • Tried to stop House from blackmailing Foreman over his affair.
  • After being stabbed by a psychotic patient, Chase holds no animosity towards anyone. Not House (for his abusive methods), not Adams (for her diagnosis), nor the patient (for his psychosis); and takes full responsibility for the incident in that he brought the scalpel and assumed the risks of a psychotic episode. He also protected Adams from the patient.
  • He reinspires Park's confidence and helps her with a procedure after she was scared by Chase's stabbing.
  • After falling in love with a former patient and saving her life, he (accidentally) restores her religious faith. Despite his objections, Chase puts his feelings aside and allows her to become a nun, even though it meant he would never see her again.
  • According to Dr. Treiber, the hospital’s Pathologist, Chase has the “best” mortality rate out of any surgeon at the hospital and personally asked Chase to be his performing surgeon.
  • Despite Treiber's initial animosity, Chase treats his former rival, Dr. Peter Treiber, a pathologist who lost the fellowship position on House's team to Chase. Chase is the only one to find the underlying cause and cures Treiber, impressing Treiber and earning his respect.
  • He returns to Princeton-Plainsboro and becomes the new Head of Diagnostics after House’s (fake) funeral to continue House’s legacy in diagnosing rare medical conditions.

What makes him Inconsistent?:[]

  • He can be jerkish, arrogant and sarcastic.
  • When Vogler threatened to fire one of them, Chase betrays the trust of House and his coworkers by informing on them for Vogler in an effort to keep his job.
  • He repeatedly neglected his work to have sex with his coworker, Cameron, on Hospital grounds. One time even during a sleep study they were performing on a patient.
  • While the hospital was betting on which applicant House would fire next, Chase rigged the game by bribing House into not firing anyone in exchange for splitting the money with him.
  • He is the only doctor on the show to have committed murder: killing “President” Dibala by intentionally misdiagnosing him (Although he had noble intentions and felt guilty for it).
    • He even indirectly makes Foreman an accomplice by having him assist Chase in covering up the murder.
  • He punches House to intimidate his coworkers into stop asking about his divorce. Granted, House incited Chase prior and Chase did eventually apologize to House.
  • When Wilson wants to get revenge on House for leaking a porno starring him, Chase agrees to help Wilson find an embarrassing secret about House. When Wilson discovers House is reading a book of sermons, he reconsiders the plan and asks Chase not to proceed. However, Chase exposes House’s book to the team and they join together in mocking House for reading a religious book.
