Dr. Joseph Albert Nefario (simply known as Dr. Nefario) is a major character of Illumination's Despicable Me franchise.
He is voiced by Russell Brand who also voiced Dr. Zomboss from Plants vs Zombies. In Despicable Me 4, he is voiced by Romesh Ranganathan.

What Makes Him Admirable?[]
- When young Gru stole the Zodiac Stone from the Vicious 6, he told him to keep walking to be safe from them.
- While he initially didn't care for the girls Gru adopted, even calling Miss Hattie to bring them back, he eventually started to care for them.
- When he realized that the Moon was going to regrow pretty fast, he went to warn Gru.
- He saved Gru from falling off Vector's ship and helped him save the girls from Vector.
- He let a stray cat go unharmed after accidentally sucking it.
- He was affable to Gru even after Gru was trying to stop El Macho's plot, saying that it was nice to see him.
- After El Macho captured Lucy, he told Gru about it and told him that El Macho knows he's a member of the AVL.
- He invented an antidote to cure the mutated Minions, putting it in a batch of jellies to be able to hit the Minions, thus completely undoing his most heinous action.
- He saved the girls from a mutated Kevin and allowed them to help him cure the Minions.
- He saved Gru from a bunch of mutated Minions that tried to kill him by curing them, before going to cure the rest of the mutated Minions.
- He defeated El Macho by shooting at him with a fart gun.
- After unfreezing himself from carbonite, he stayed by Gru's side, abandoning villainy, supporting his friend and redeeming himself.
- He reverted Gru Jr. back to normal after Maxime Le Mal turned him into a cockroach monster and returned him safely to Gru and Lucy.
- Also it is implied that he also reverted Maxime's mutation when Maxime got recaptured by the AVL.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He helped El Macho in his plot to destroy several cities, which makes him too heinous, especially since his redemption is due to wanting to protect his family.
- Despite redeeming himself, he is an anti-hero, as he only turned against El Macho due to wanting to keep his family safe rather than standards against El Macho's crimes.
- Much Like Gru he never really showed any remorse for his various crimes.
