Din Grogu, also known as The Child, is the deuteragonist of the Star Wars Disney+ series The Mandalorian, and a supporting character in The Book of Boba Fett. He is of the same species as Jedi Grand Master Yoda and Jedi Master Yaddle.
When piloting IG-12, he was voiced by Taika Waititi.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Admirable?[]
In General/Background[]
- While he has an obsession with food, it's because he's had to survive without several times, and he doesn't understand how eggs bring forth life, explaining why he wants to eat them.
- Despite the high Star Wars admirable standard, he stands out for how young he is and for saving a town from getting destroyed by a rancor.
- Even though he didn’t help the Jedi around him survive Order 66, it was only because he was told to escape by them, and he was saddened by their deaths.
The Mandalorian seasons 1-3[]
- Saved Djarin's life from the Mudhorn that damaged most of his armor.
- He allowed Winta, Omera’s daughter, to open up to becoming friends with the other villagers as she becomes less shy.
- He defends himself from Q9-0 when he was threatening his life.
- Defends Djarin from an incoming Flametrooper.
- He helps Djarin repair the Razor Crest.
- He allows Ahsoka Tano to make him remember some of his past.
- He only bit the fingers of and force pushed two stormtroopers out of self-defense due to them intending to bring him to Moff Gideon.
- Hugs Din Djarin before parting with him.
- He remembers more of his past through Luke Skywalker and when he gives him a choice on staying a Jedi or going back to the Mandalorian, he chooses to go back to Djarin just because he had a strong attachment to him.
- He saved the whole town of Mos Espa by putting Boba Fett's rancor to sleep when it was causing havoc.
- When Din Djarin was captured by a creature, he gets onto his ship and convinces Bo-Katan to rescue him.
- He earns the respect of Captain Bombardier and the Duchess when he displays his force powers while Din and Bo-Katan were on a mission, giving him the title of knight.
- He stops Paz Vizsla and Axe Woves from trying to kill each other, although Vizsla would later die anyway.
- After IG-12 was destroyed, he helps Din Djarin defend himself from the Royal Guards.
- When Axe Woves crashes the ship into Moff Gideon's base and successfully kills the Moff, in an act of selflessness, Grogu creates a force bubble around him, Djarin and Bo-Katan, from the flames approaching, which saved all of their lives.
- He agrees to be taught by Djarin the way of the Mandalore before leaving the planet.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He is too amoral for NPG. He is objectively as amoral as any other toddler, having multiple moral agency issues because of his age, being far too young to have the cognitive ability to determine righteous actions consistently. Furthermore, he only chooses to fight for good because Din Djarin takes care of him and Moff Gideon does the polar opposite.
- He has several moments of being maliciously mischievous. He choked Cara Dune just because he was arm-wrestling Djarin, continuously messed with a button on the Razor Crest Djarin told him not to touch, biting a scout trooper in the finger (even though he deserved it, he still was sadistic in doing this), and tried to capture an Anzellan blacksmith for no reason. While he clearly doesn’t know better due to his lack of self-awareness, he still had zero altruistic reason to act this way.
- Even though he has to survive for days without food and does not know that eggs bring forth life, he still retains his gluttonous streak since sometimes he keeps eating more than he should (which results in him vomiting) and would steal other people’s food for petty reasons, showing that he has a lack of self-control. He neither shows remorse for nor reforms away from this behavior through the course of this series.
Trivia[]
- He and Din Djarin, alongside Anakin and Luke Skywalker, are the only father-son duos on this wiki.
- Coincidentally, both of these duos are from Star Wars.
- He and Anakin Skywalker are the only Inconsistently Admirable characters that share the exact same age at any point they were shown in a Star Wars film or TV show.
- What's more coincidential is that he and Luke are both on the front page representing Movie Inconsistently Admirables, as well as the fact that he was on there even before being approved as IA.
- Much like Jack-Jack Parr, his Inconsistently Admirable status is ironic, since he is one of the most popular Star Wars characters of recent years mostly owing to how adorable and innocent he is.
