Denji, also known as Chainsaw Man, is the titular main protagonist of the Chainsaw Man franchise.
He is a teen who suffered from huge poverty after his father left him with huge debt in his back. To get out of poverty, he must work as a Devil Hunter and have the best life possible, in order to fulfill the dream he told his pet, Pochita.
He is voiced by Kikunosuke Toya in Japanese, and by Ryan Colt Levy in the English dub, who also voices Rody Soul in My Hero Academia.

What Make Him Admirable?[]
Part 1[]
- When he was young, he saved Pochita's life by sacrificing his flesh to the Chainsaw Devil himself.
- Despite his huge poverty, he decided to take Pochita with him.
- When Pochita got injured by the Zombie Devil, the dying Denji tried to carry him to safety. In return, Pochita gave him his Chainsaw Devil powers to him by merging with the latter, saving his life.
- He killed the Zombie Devil which would save potential victims from its zombification.
- While he worked for the Public Safety Devil Hunter Organization, he killed several dangerous devils.
- He killed the Eternity Devil and saved his fellow Devil Hunters from dying of starvation, despite them trying to sell him out to save themselves.
- He defeated Katana Man to avenge Himeno's death.
- His time with Reze convinced her to abandon her mission to kill him and try to be with him.
- He tried to avoid killing the doll-transformed humans due to believing that they were still in there, when he killed one that called him a murderer, he felt remorse and lost his will to fight until Quanxi convinced him to not hold back.
- Defeated Santa Claus, avenging and saving so many people in the process.
- Despite the hardship he endured during the Organization, he had formed good friendships with his co-workers, especially Power and Aki. Their bonds are so strong that he mentally breaks after being forced to kill Aki and watching Makima murder Power in front of him.
- He killed the Gun Fiend when it was possessing Aki's corpse, stopping from massacring innocent people.
- After being mentally abused greatly by Makima, he and Pochita decided to put an end to her madness to avenge his fallen friends, saving Japan and even the world from her attempted reign of terror.
Part 2[]
- Though it was unintentional, he saved Asa Mitaka and Yuko from being eaten from the reincarnated Bat Devil.
- Saved a cat from the Cockroach Devil, this indicates that he still misses Power.
- Stopped the devil-transformed Yuko from continuing her rampage, saving many lives in the process.
- He forgave and cheered up Asa when she admitted that she tried to kill him.
- As Chainsaw Man, he convinced and motivated Asa to keep living when she initially tried to let herself die, and tried to keep her safe from the Falling Devil and Justice Devil until nightfall.
- When Yoshida told him to stop being Chainsaw Man for Nayuta's sake, Denji agreed and temporarily stopped becoming Chainsaw Man.
- Although he agreed to join the Chainsaw Man Church to have sex with a girl, he was disgusted that the members of the church have to get marry and have children and was horrified when Barem suggested to kill Asa so he became Chainsaw Man again that he immediately left the church.
- When hearing Fumiko's backstory that she was there when Denji had to fight and kill the Gun Fiend, he asks her if her parents survived and showed sadness when he figured out that they didn't.
- When Nayuta tried to kill Fumiko, he distracts her so that Fumiko can escape and convinced Nayuta not to kill people and to not join the Devil's side.
- When he saw his apartment on fire, he immediately ran towards it to try to save his pets.
- When Miri claims that burning down his home was the key to save the world, Denji calls him out on how insane he sounds.
- He defeated Miri, Spear Man and Whip Woman for what they did to his pets. Although it was brutal, it was justified for what they did.
- When a mob of people tried to kill him, he cut off on of their hands to prevent him from burning him. Though it was lethal, it was in self-defense.
- Despite telling Nayuta he saw her as a burden, he only lied to her so that she won't try to be associated with him and save herself from the angry mob who hate Chainsaw Man.
- When he woke up a week later in a hospital, he immediately wanted to go find and save Nayuta.
- When his dismembered body reattached and woke up in a bed, he first worryingly asks Asa what happened to her arm.
- Despite Yoru and Asa being convinced that Nayuta is dead, Denji didn't lose hope and continued searching for her.
- Despite brutally ripping off Barem's head, it was justified for all the evil things Barem did to Denji and his loved ones.
- Refused the Aging Devil's offer to convince Pochita to eat him to sacrifice 10,000 children. He later along with Yoshida and Asa/Yoru helped the others to escape and return back to their world.
- Tried his best in minimising casualties when Yoru was using her Bang attack on people including those who had intent of harming. This happened after she revealed her identity to him and essentially took him on a twisted version of a date.
- He once again cheers up Asa and convinces her to not die and have fun by empathizing with her.
- Expressed disgust at Fakesaw Man for using human meat shields.
- Defeated Fakesaw Man and free the former pseudo-Chainsaw people.
What Make Him Inconsistent?[]
- The main reason he cannot be NPG is because he's an anti-hero. While he is capable of empathy for others, his primary goal is to live the best life possible due to the harsh conditions in his life.
- He's shown to possesses sexual motives, like one of them is planning to join the Chainsaw Man Church to have sex with a girl, as well as trying to blow his own cover in order to impress girls.
- He has clear moral agency issues:
- When he's in his Hybrid form, he becomes a deranged sadist who likes to taunt and annihilate his enemy devils. This form at times also causes him to lose some senses of his humanity.
- His mental health had damaged him so bad that he become a pessimistic person that cannot process what he is thinking, like when asked what makes him believe in his ideas, he replied with sex.
- Another example of this would be during his fight with Fakesaw Man which showed him getting called out over saving a person just because she's a woman when she got affected by the Falling Devil's power. However it's a minor prevention since Denji tries his best (whenever he can) to protect others regardless of gender.
- He is extremely lethal, as he loves to tear his enemies apart and make them suffer.
- One of the most notable examples is with the Eternity devil, who was cut up and tortured for more than 3 days until he let them go, even Denji mentioned that he wished to continue torturing him.
- Despite not wanting to kill innocent civilians, he is fine with letting them (especially males) die, as he didn't bother to save a teenage boy and a car of old people from the Cockroach Devil and kicked a man off his motorcycle to escape the Justice Devil.
- He is also willing to harm other people, for example, to escape the Aging Devil's realm by powering Pochita up, he hacked out the guts of a fellow survivor of the realm. Although it's only to escape being subjected to becoming a tree, so it's a minor prevention.
- He is mischievous, as he and Power shoved poop up Aki's nose and upper lip.
- He's indirectly responsible for Fakesaw Man's villainy as the student he let get killed by the cockroach devil was actually his younger brother because this led to the older brother realize he wasn't a hero and become vengeful towards him, however this was unintentional so this can act like a minor prevention.
