What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- Dean is a clear-cut anti-hero. He's a criminal who frequently steals and cons other people out of their money to continue his journeys. He can be very harsh to his allies and has a hard time controlling his temper.
- Cheated on his girlfriend in High School.
- During his time in hell, Dean caved in to Alistair's offer to torture other souls, and even admitted he enjoyed it. This would lead to Dean changing for the worst, lasting the rest of the series.
- Tortures Alistair on Castiels instructions. He did this in spite of his fear that he would lose himself, and showed just how much Hell had changed him with how far he went in trying to break Alistair.
- While Sam is also guilty of this, Dean frequently keeps unnecessary secrets from him which leads to the brothers developing trust issues with each other and infighting. Even after having been through the consequences of keeping secrets from Sam, he continues to do so.
- Killed Amy Pond after promising Sam he'd let her go. While he felt guilty at the time, he later told Sam that his guilt was from keeping it a secret from him, not actually killing her.
- He would later show hypocrisy for this, as he befriended a Vampire named Benny and tried to protect him several times, even tricking Sam multiple times to keep him safe.
- Tortures Gadreel and later slashed him across the chest with the First Blade, leaving the Angel on the brink of death. Though he was falling under the Mark of Cain's influence at the time, his anger to Gadreel had been present before he took on the Mark.
- Has a habit of blaming things on Castiel even when he isn't directly at fault. Such as in season 15, when he blamed Castiel for Rowena's death because Castiel wouldn't allow the demon, Belphegor, to conquer hell as well as blaming Castiel for his mother Mary's death, due to Cas not revealing his concerns about Jack sooner.
- Can be very brutal towards his enemies.
- Stopped Sam from closing the Gates of Hell and sealing away all of the Demons. While he did this because he wanted Sam to live, this still left the world at the mercy of demons that would escape from Hell.
- Was willing to kill Amara at the beginning of season 11, even though she was physically a toddler at the time.
- He can be mischievous sometimes.
- During season 15, he grew more and more consumed with rage and the idea of revenge against Chuck. He was harsh to Jack, declaring him not to be family, berated Sam and Cas for not going through with the plan and even pulled a gun on Sam. He also made it clear that for his own freedom from Chuck's 'story', he was willing to trade everything and everyone, even his closest friends. While Sam did get through to him and talked him down, he was still close to shooting his brother.
- Frequently lets his anger get the best of him and lashes out, usually destroying whatever room he's in or in more extreme cases trying to kill something. This has led to severe consequences, as when he inadvertently brought Billie to the brink of death, it resulted in Cas having to sacrifice himself to stop her by fulfilling his deal with the Empty.
- He can be hedonist in several ocasions.
