If wearing superhero tights means sparing psychopaths, then maybe I wasn't meant to wear them.
~ Deadpool telling Colossus to look at the bigger picture.
I didn't ask to be super and I'm no hero. But when your worst enemy kidnaps your best girl, the time has come to be a f-cking superhero.
~ Deadpool's speech on why he became a hero.
I'm not doing this because I need it. I'm doing it because they do.
~ Deadpool before trying to sacrifice himself.

Wade Winston Wilson, also known as Deadpool, is a major character in 20th Century Studios' X-Men film series and the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

He is a ruthless and skilled assassin who regularly kills people for money but later warms up to the idea of doing heroic things. He also is the only Marvel character to break the fourth wall.

He is portrayed by Ryan Reynolds and in the Mexican Spanish dub he was voiced by Pepe Toño Macías.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Admirable?[]

In General[]

  • Despite being a villain sometimes, he cares about the audience, always talking to them, and he also cares about his friends despite his jerkish comments to them. He also likes to do heroic deeds to entertain the audience, he also doesn't surpass the heinous standards, ultimately preventing him from becoming Near Pure Evil.
  • Though he kills villains usually for fun, it’s also to protect his friends.
  • Even though the admirable standards for both the X-Men franchise and the MCU are astronomically high, he easily passes it by saving the entire multiverse from Cassandra Nova and nearly sacrificing himself to do so. Not to mention that he tried stopping Paradox from destroying his timeline.

Deadpool[]

  • He helped a girl get rid of her stalker with good intentions only.
  • While he wanted to do Ajax's procedure so he could live, he also did it because he didn't want Vanessa to have to cope with his death.
  • He hunted down all of Ajax's men and took them out.
  • He agreed to consider joining the X-Men as thanks to Colossus for helping him.
  • He defeated Francis and saved Vanessa from dying painfully by asphyxiation.
    • While a big part of the reason Wade killed Francis was for revenge, he also did it because he didn't want others to have to go through the brutal torture sessions he had to endure.

Deadpool 2[]

  • He protected Vanessa when people stormed their apartment with the intention to kill him and Vanessa and avenged her by killing her murderer after he tried to get away.
  • He attempted to stop Firefist getting abused by the staff members at the orphanage by killing one of the staff members there to make an example.
  • He created the X-Force to save Firefist from a convoy that is taking him away from the prison Wade had escaped from.
  • He showed sympathy upon hearing Cable's backstory of having future Firefist kill his wife and daughter.
  • He sacrificed himself to save Firefist from getting killed by Cable, which successfully redeemed Firefist and convinced him that murdering the Headmaster is wrong.
    • When Cable travelled back in time to save Wade from dying, Wade still tried to sacrifice himself again, only not dying this time due to Cable putting a coin in his pocket that blocked the bullet.
  • He time travelled back to before Vanessa and Peter died and saved them both from dying. It's also implied he saved Shatterstar (and potentially the rest of X-Force) from dying, as Shatterstar is shown to be alive and well at his birthday party in the following movie.

Deadpool & Wolverine[]

  • During his Time Travel trip, he paid a visit to Earth-199999 and got a meeting with Happy Hogan in order to try to become an Avenger and use his powers for the greater good and show Vanessa he can be selfless.
  • While he did quit being Deadpool for several years, it was to prove he could matter without the hero life and actively tried to enjoy his civilian life. He also kept in touch with the X-Men.
  • After being told by the TVA that he could go to the MCU and become an Avenger, he eagerly agreed, assuming that he could rotate between Earth-199999 and Earth-10005.
  • After finding out that his world was dying because of Logan's demise and that Paradox planned to accelerate his universe's natural destruction, he immediately backed away from his prior proposal (even though all he really wanted was to be a hero) and even tried to stand up to him before realizing he was outmatched.
  • He pretended to accept Paradox's deal so that he could break his nose and steal his Time Pad to look for another Wolverine in the multiverse to act as a new anchor being in his world and prevent it's destruction.
  • He went to Earth-17315 and dug up Logan's grave believing that the mutant was still alive so that he could save his universe.
  • He beat down and killed several TVA agents using Logan's adamantium bones from his corpse as weapons in self-defense, as the TVA agents sought to either bring him in or prune him under the orders of Paradox.
  • He visited several universes to search for a Wolverine that he could take back to his world as a replacement Anchor Being.
  • After encountering an alternate version of the original Logan that had lost his X-Men, he tried to peacefully ask him to come with him and only became more demanding after the drunken Wolverine refused to come with him.
  • When he found out that Paradox was acting without supervision or permission from the TVA leaders, he tried to report him for it before being pruned.
  • After arriving in the Void, he tried to convince Wolverine to stand down and work together instead of fighting, eventually doing it by promising he could fix his world.
  • After Johnny Storm was defeated by Pyro, he took his swords out of Wolverine so that he could evenly fight Sabretooth.
  • Besides he said to Cassandra Nova that Johnny offended her calling her a montage of highly graphic euphemisms, it was known to her that Johnny offended her and was very funny.
  • After Cassandra Nova invaded his mind, he distracted her long enough for Wolverine to stab her through the back, though she quickly healed and forced them to escape from Alioth.
  • He tried to inspire Logan by telling him of his original counterpart's heroics and the impact he had on his world and told him how he died protecting Laura.
  • While he did get into a very brutal and lengthy fight with Logan inside Nicepool's car, he only did so after being severely insulted and provoked by him.
  • After awakening in the Resistance's hideout, he quickly joined the team and successfully inspired Blade, Elektra, Gambit, and Laura into joining him in an attack against Cassandra to get Juggernaut's helmet to cancel her powers and get her to send them home.
  • He participated in the fight in Cassandra's hideout and succeeded in putting Juggernaut's helmet on her.
  • He listened to Logan and chose to remove the helmet to save Cassandra's life in order to honor Charles Xavier's memory. This convinced her to use sling ring from a variant of Doctor Strange to send them back to Earth-10005.
  • He and Logan quickly ran to the TVA outpost before being stopped by Cassandra and her army of Deadpool Corps, who the two then fought through until Peter arrived to steal away the Deadpools' attention.
  • While he used Nicepool as human shield, he regretted it upon knowing that he can't regenerate.
  • Despite being warned that he would die for good if he went down to stop the Time Ripper's reactor, he still chose to do it and amends for forcing Wolverine into the situation.
  • After Wolverine chose to sacrifice himself, he knocked him away and took his place, telling him that he would do this for the good of others and not just himself.
  • He and Logan managed to combine the matter and anti-matter in the Time Ripper's reactor and blew the machine up, killing Cassandra in the process and preventing her from annihilating the universe and the entirety of the multiverse as well. Furthermore it also stopped his world's decay due to losing its anchor being.
  • Asked Hunter B-15 to release the members of the Resistance from the Void and also tried to get Wolverine's world fixed.
  • Rather than allowing Logan to leave, he invited him along with Laura to his apartment and meet his friends for them to start over, while he reconciled his relationship with Vanessa.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • He is a classic example of an anti-hero, often driven by self-interest rather than a genuine desire to help others except the audience and for very few exceptions. Deadpool himself has said multiple times that he does not feel like a hero at all.
  • He is very arrogant, seeing himself as a godlike being calling himself Marvel's Jesus.
  • He has rude or abrasive moments, often verbally abusing others with his snarky remarks.
  • He is extremely lethal, with a kill count in the hundreds, and many of his kills are unnecessarily brutal.
  • There are times where he can be careless and selfish, such as using Cable's Time Device to alter time and bring back his deceased lived ones without considering the ramifications it would have on the multiverse. He does many questionable things, such as causing a massive car crash on a highway that endangered many innocent lives, leaving Firefist at the prison all by himself when Firefist said he would look out for Wade, ratting Johnny Storm out to Cassandra Nova for no reason other than him not being MCU Captain America, resulting in him being brutally murdered by her, and getting Nicepool caught in the crossfire and killed by using him as a human shield against the Deadpool Corp's gunfire.
  • He has a clear distain for 20th Century Fox, often breaking the fourth wall to insult and ridicule their creative decisions, and telling the entire studio to “suck it” and that he's going to Disney (which is ironic in a meta way since Fox is a subsidiary of Disney now).

Trivia[]

  • Only Deadpool from the Deadpool film trilogy counts as Inconsistently Admirable while his counterpart from X-Men Origins: Wolverine doesn't due to being an unabashed villain with no visible signs of heroism.
