Deacon St. John is the main protagonist of Days Gone. He was a former motard who thought that lost his wife when the apocalypse began, but after he found out from NERO that the doctor who was with her before he thought he lost her, O'Brian, was alive, he became obsessed with getting information from O'Brian, doing several of their request. He also helps the communities with their requests.
He was voiced and mo-capped by Sam Witwer.

What Makes Him Admirable?[]
- He tried to convince a man that was trying to kill him that he didn't mean to harm him, and only killing him when he was forced to.
- It's mentioned that he was willing to die when Boozer tried to kill himself in ordered for both of them to die together as friends, proving his loyalty towards Boozer. This would also stop Boozer from killing himself because he didn't want Deacon to die.
- He honorably killed Leon by shooting him in the head when he was about to get eaten alive rather than leaving him to die.
- He saved Boozer when he was being tortured by Rippers.
- He gave Boozer medicine in order to heal the injuries that were caused by the Rippers.
- He constantly helps the communities by doing several missions for them, saving many people as well as stopping others from further harming the communities.
- He saves survivors from Drifters and criminals and tells them where survivor camps are so they can be safe.
- He spares a woman who tried to kill him due to his code that he doesn't kill women unless he has to.
- He saved Lisa Jackson three times from both Freakers and the Rippers and gave her to Lost Lake because she didn't want to continue to be in Tucker's slave labor.
- He gave a woman who was about to get eaten alive by Freakers a mercy kill and comforted her in her final moments, even when Skizzo told him not to.
- He saved many people during the Rippers' attack on Lost Lake.
- He stopped the Rippers and Carlos by killing them to make sure they wouldn't hurt other people, even feeling sympathy for Carlos due to being his former friend.
- He spared a woman who Colonel Garret ordered him to capture so the Colonel could publicly execute her.
- He helped Sarah in trying to create a vaccine to stop the Freakers.
- He comforted Sarah when she found out that she was indirectly and partially responsible for the creation of the Freakers.
- He, alongside Sarah, stop the Colonel from wiping out all the other communities.
- He gives a speech to the people of Lost Lake to honor Iron Mike and to convince them to live their lives no matter how horrible things get.
- He stopped a soldier of Lost Lake from killing Lisa.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He is extremely lethal, taking deep sadism in killing Freakers, Rippers and Drifters alike, one of the biggest examples of this is Skizzo, whom he planned to leave to the Freakers to be eaten alive, and during their final fight, he admits that he would enjoy killing Skizzo before cutting his throat.
- He commits several morally ambiguous acts through the game, such as threatening to cut the throat of a woman he was trying to save because she refused to give him something that would convince the Colonel that she died.
- He, alongside Boozer and his friend Jack, tortured Jessie Williams by brutally removing his tattoo, which would lead to him to become Carlos, the psychotic leader of the Rippers.
- He can act as a jerk at times to multiple people, such as Iron Mike, Manny, Copeland, and even Boozer.
