NOTE: This article is only about his original TV show incarnation as his DuckTales 2017 incarnation was voted Near Pure Good, so only his original incarnation information should be put here.

The city of St. Canard is home to a thousand criminals, but not one of them dares make a move, for this city has a shadowy guardian who hunts them like a phantom in the darkness. I am that guardian. I am the terror that flaps in the night! I am the winged scourge that pecks at your nightmares! I am Darkwing Duck!
~ Darkwing's opening monologue in the episode "That Sinking Feeling".
Let's get dangerous!
~ Darkwing's famous catchphrase.
Suck gas, evil-doer.
~ Darkwing when he prepares to use his gas gun.

Drake Mallard, also known as Darkwing Duck is the titular main protagonist of the Disney animated TV show of the same name. He is a crime-fighter who protects St. Canard from destruction and villains and is often egotistical and arrogant, but shows a heroic side.

He was voiced by Jim Cummings.

His Good Ranking[]

Debated Validation[]

  • While he turned evil in the episode "Time and Punishment" after Gosalyn went missing, ruling St. Canard with an iron fist, Gosalyn prevented the events leading up to this by returning to her time, and Darkwing's evil alter-ego from that episode appears as his alternate dimension counterpart in the comics, which might indicate that Darkwarrior Duck and Darkwing Duck have been separated into different entities by the timeline split, and the former's actions should not be applied to the latter.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • He has too many corrupting factors and vices such as his frequent moments of constant egotism, arrogance, pettiness, vanity, and jerkishness. Due to his conflated ego, he often craves the spotlight and can get jealous if someone takes it, is sometimes rude to his sidekick Launchpad and often butts heads with other allies. He also tends to rudely refuse help from others, thinking he can fight crime alone, but he usually accepts help from them later on when the problem becomes too much for him to handle and apologizes to them for being arrogant.
    • He will sometimes take credit for Gosalyn or Launchpad's ideas and claim them as his own.
    • He also tends to get into arguments with S.H.U.S.H. agent Vladimir Gryzlikoff over which of their methods to save the day is better, but they usually work together in the end, making it a minor prevention.
    • He's also shown to act jerkish towards his next-door neighbors, Herb and Binkie Muddlefoot due to their annoying personality and looks down on them, though he sometimes gets along with them, especially Herb.
  • He is an anti-hero as he sometimes does heroics for fame and recognition rather than for justice and the benefit of others.
  • He is jealous of Gizmoduck and hates him for being a better and more respected hero than him.
  • He can act stubborn and sometimes ignore the advice of others, including Launchpad or Gosalyn, believing he always knows best, but he usually takes their advice in the end when he realizes his ego.
  • He has shown to be extremely wrathful, lethal and overboard crazy, as he once blew up his house with a dynamite to kill a fly that was bothering him while relaxing. He can also be a bit irritable as well as he sometimes yells at people who anger him, even if it was unintentional.
  • He can at times be a bit of a condescending jerk to Gosalyn, but it's usually because she's being mischievous.
    • He can be a bit too overprotective of her and often forbids her from going with him on his missions. While she is only a kid and he doesn't want her to get hurt, he can still be a bit stubborn and not need her help, even though Gosalyn has been a useful companion plenty of times.
    • He quoted about using a mallet to put Gosalyn to sleep, even though she's only a child.
    • When she was covered in slime, he used her slime powers to catch Bushroot, not caring that she was infected, but he soon feels remorse for his actions and turns her back to normal.

Trivia[]

  • He's the only Mickey Mouse Inconsistently Admirable not to be part of Duck family and the only one not to appear in DuckTales.
  • Only his original version is Inconsistently Admirable, as his new counterpart has far less corrupting factors (Although it may change in the upcoming reboot of Darkwing Duck).
