~ Clover's last words to Ceroba as they sacrifice themselves |
“ | You are a kind soul. One of the best I've met. Left and right you've been beaten and bruised, but you stayed vigilant. You defuse situations and mend relationships... A far cry from what I was taught growing up. Royal Guards are taught that humans are the enemy. I only ever heard stories of war and our Underground imprisonment. But you're different. If you could change my mind on humans, I know you can change Asgore's! | „ |
~ Martlet to Clover over their actions on the pacifist route |
Clover is the main protagonist of the Undertale fanmade prequel, Undertale Yellow.
They're a human child who jumped into Mtt.Ebott in hopes of finding and saving the missing human children. Their soul trait is JUSTICE.
While Clover is usually meant to be an heroic character, some of the player's action can also turn Clover into a genocidal maniac, acting as the main villainous protagonist of the game.
Their Good Ranking[]
What Makes Them Admirable?[]
- They jumped into Mt .Ebott to find and save the missing human children despite knowing it was dangerous.
- In the Decibat fight Clover can become friends with him by giving him the silence he wants.
- While confronting Dalv, they can talk things out with him and chose to spare and even befriend him, which eventually makes Dalv confident about himself enough to finally leave the Ruins along with the other monsters.
- They can do multiple good deeds for the Monsters, which include:
- Helping a lost couple by giving them a Map of Snowdin.
- Helping Slurpy from getting his tongue free from a pole.
- Buying all of Mo's items which gets him out of debt and greatly helps him to improve his life.
- When meeting Martlet instead of attacking her they can chose to not attack her at all and just result to insults, which of course aren't actually made to make her feel bad since Martlet asked them to do it in the first place, in the end they can end the battle peacefully without any violence.
- Upon encountering El Bailador, they make good friends with him and despite not being so passionate about the art of dance, they still dance with him.
- During the train mission on the Wild East, Clover can chose to save 4 people over 1. Which shows Clover is able to made sacrifices in order to protect innocents, although this was later revealed to be acted and no one was in real danger.
- In their fight with Starlo, when he has only 1 bullet left. Clover can either surrender, or do nothing to let Starlo win instead of killing him, despite Starlo wanting to kill them.
- Despite Axis trying multiple times to kill them, Clover is merciful and can spare him in all routes. In The Pacifist Run Clover fully redeems him along with Ceroba, making Axis a peaceful robot instead of a killing machine.
- In the Neutral Run, when Flowey kills Martlet, Clover will always confront him. Even if they can't really win they still try to stop him, which eventually leads to Flowey giving up and resetting the timeline.
- It is also revealed that during most of the timelines, Clover never gained any LV or harmed anyone. Meaning they are almost always a pacifist, since they never harmed anyone on most of the paths they took prior to the events of Undertale Yellow.
- In the Final Boss of the True Pacifist Ending, Clover spares Ceroba after she tried to kill them and take their soul. Not only that but they chose to sacrifice themselves for the sake of Monsterkind, giving Asgore a sixth human soul.
- This is also important since the ending lefts clear Clover helped Frisk during The Photoshop Flowey fight and possibly was an important part of Asriel destroying the barrier and freeing Monsterkind.
- Even in the Genocide Route they maintain their sense of honor and Justice, since Clover finally avenges the 5 children and frees them to let them rest in peace.
What Makes Them Inconsistent?[]
- Thanks to the game having multiple endings, the player's actions can turn Clover into a genocidal maniac who will do anything to complete their mission.
- The game has multiple choices, and in some of them Clover can act as a jerk or as a morally questionable person.
- When you save 1 person over 4 in the train mission for example, a parody of the Trolley Problem moral dilemma. Them attacking Martlet multiple times or even betrayal killing monsters like Starlo or Dalv, despite knowing Starlo's family and friends will be grieving for his loss for the rest of their lives.
- In the Flawed Pacifist Ending, they killed Ceroba, who has a tragic backstory and can be redeemed, with even Starlo mentioning this and showing how greatly her death affected him. However, considering Ceroba's intentions to not only kill but experiment on Clover's soul, having used Clover's kindness against them and betrayed them, even going far as mocking them being "naive", and never backing down from killing them the whole fight, killing her is somewhat justified even if Ceroba may not have deserved it.
- Even in Pacifist they are rather impulsive and lethal, since their reaction to seeing Asgore with the human souls was to immediately draw their weapon to kill him. Even if it's justified, they are still too impulsive and lethal.
