“ | I want to show you something super cool. Look at these lockers. They all look alike, right? Not this one. This one is special. It belonged to a girl who killed herself. You see all these “don’t kill yourself” posters up on the wall? They weren’t up before. They put them up because she killed herself. And why did she do it? Because the kids here treated her like sh-t! But no one wants to admit it, so they paint over the bathrooms and put up a memorial, because that’s the kind of school that this is. Everyone is just so nice until they drive you to kill yourself. And sooner or later, the truth will come out! It’s gonna come out! Welcome to Liberty High. | „ |

~ Jensen to Mr. Porter after discussing to him about Hannah's death and her tapes. |
Clayton "Clay" Jason Jensen, is the main protagonist of the 2007 novel Thirteen Reasons Why, and its 2017 Netflix adaptation.
He is the best friend and lover of the late Hannah Baker, who committed suicide, and left behind thirteen tapes explaining why. After hearing the tapes, Clay decides to bring justice to his late friend, and would try to redeem everyone involved in the Baker's Dozen (having been included as the subject of the 6th tape) as possible as he can. He simultaneously copes with her death while desiring justice for her, eventually discovering the secret room of baseball varsity teammates where the Polaroids he acquired have taken him.
He was the main suspect of Bryce Walker's death in season three, later using his detective skills, along with his new girlfriend Ani Achola's, to investigate and discover the true killer. During that season, he comforted and befriended Tyler Down after the latter had been sexually abused by Montgomery de la Cruz, who once tried to kill him.
He became the narrator of season four, having narrated his experiences to his therapist Dr. Ellman occasionally, after reaching insanity following the previous events that affected him mentally and emotionally. He later got accepted to Brown University, graduating from Liberty High with his speech at the end of the show.
He was portrayed by Dylan Minnette.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Admirable?[]
- He mourned the loss of his lover Hannah Baker and decided to avenge Hannah's death and will do anything to accomplish it.
- He redeemed multiple of the tape subjects, who somehow influenced in Hannah's suicide, including Zach Dempsey, Courtney Crimsen and Justin Foley.
- He tried to inform Jessica Davis the truth about Bryce Walker.
- He secretly recorded Bryce's confession while Bryce simultaneously assaulted him.
- He stopped Tyler Down from massacring the entire school, saving the lives of hundreds of students, and then helping Tyler redeem himself by comforting him in one of the most touching scenes after he confessed how Montgomery de la Cruz raped him.
- He covered Tyler up along with Tony so he wouldn't have to go to prison.
- He felt remorse over the deaths of both the series' villains, Bryce and Monty, despite the former's differences and enmity; and the latter beating Clay up with other high school jocks and even trying to murder him. He even admitted about Bryce that he was a human being that didn't deserve to die.
- He held Justin's hand as he slowly passed.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He has multiple jerkish moments that prevented him from becoming Near Pure Good, such as:
- Having arguments with his parents, and being a bad friend to Tony sometimes.
- Taking a picture of Tyler's nude butt and distributed it all around the school, and bringing Courtney to Hannah's grave. While he did this to return the favor against Tyler for what he originally did towards Hannah and Courtney, and the latter for her consequential rumors and actions to where it landed Hannah, it's still out of revenge for pushing Hannah into suicide and is nothing at all admirable.
- He is lethal, as he nearly killed Bryce, and probably would have if Justin didn't stop him.
- He briefly became a villain in season four through his "Percy" persona, and also showed corrupting moments like beating up Valerie Diaz's boyfriend Aaron after she and Clay finished having sex. In that same predicament, he also threatened to kill Winston and Diego for no particular reason other than their relationship with Bryce and Monty.
