I bear it, so they don't have to.
~ Clarke Griffin.
Sanctum is free! There are no kings or queens or Primes here. We have no use for a palace. We are the last of the human race, and we've all made mistakes. Tomorrow, Russell Prime dies for his.
~ Clarke to the group in season seven.

Clarke Griffin is the main protagonist of The 100 who was born and raised on the Ark. She was arrested by the Ark's guard in an attempt to aid her father in exposing the truth about the oxygen supply. However, since she was a minor, she wouldn't be ejected from the Ark or "floated" for her crime. Instead, she would join 99 other juvenile delinquents on Earth to explore and ultimately see if it is survivable.

She is portrayed by Eliza Taylor, and Ella Pitkin as a child.

Her Good Ranking[]

What Makes Her Admirable?[]

In General[]

  • She's very intelligent, as shown multiple times in how she commands, coordinates, and makes deals with friends and enemies.
  • She has a determined attitude which makes her a natural leader.
  • She is super protective of her people, even people she personally finds to be repulsive.

Season 1[]

  • She initially resisted Bellamy Blake when he demanded everyone take off their wristbands.
  • She is one of the first to gather supplies and find Jasper.
    • She never gave up on Jasper after finding him and successfully heals him.
  • When the camp wants to hang John Murphy for supposedly murdering Wells, she passionately expresses disagreement calling it "vengeance, not justice" and tries to stop everyone from hanging him.
    • As soon as she finds out John is innocent, she immediately grabs an axe and cuts down the rope.
  • She helps Bellamy convince Chancellor Jaha to pardon him.
  • She cauterizes Raven's gunshot wound that was caused by Murphy.
  • Even through the attempt at a truce with the grounders was a failure, it was still noble of her to try.
    • Her attempts failed primarily because Jasper panicked and opened fire on the Grounders, still traumatized from his earlier ordeal.
  • She protected her fellow delinquents from being slaughtered by the grounders.
    • She stops Miller from killing Anya by pleading mercy.

Season 2[]

  • When she breaks out of her room in The 48, she immediately asks where Monty is (albeit in a threatening manner)
  • After figuring out that only 48 was taken into Mount Weather, she grows concern and worry for the others that weren't taken in.
    • She keeps trying to get out of the mountain to find the others herself.
  • When she finds Anya and the grounders lock in the cages, she helps her out of the cage by breaking the lock with a pipe.
    • She successfully helps escape with Anya from the mountain men.
    • After much argument between Anya and Clarke, she manages to get her to agree to a truce (This is until Anya is shot by one of the Guard members).
  • She and her mother find a way to bring Lincoln back to normal after being turned into a reaper.
  • When a deal to kill Finn Collins for massacring grounder villagers to start a truce occurs, Clarke tries her absolute best to keep Finn Collins alive by convincing Lexa to spare Finn's life, to show to Clarke's people that they can be merciful.
    • When Finn takes himself in to the grounders, and she sees that there's no way around this, Clarke mercy kills him so he would avoid any more suffering.
  • She saves Raven's life again by proving to the grounders that they didn't try to poison anyone.
  • She saves Lexa's life from Pauna.
  • Even though she killed innocent people to do it, she did defeat the Mountain Men and freed her people.
    • It should also be noted that she at least feels remorse for the lives she's taken, which is why she left Arkadia.
    • Clatke also only did it when she saw no other choice, had been betrayed and abandoned by most of her allies, and her attempts to get the Mountain Men to stand down through threats had failed. In short, it was Clarke's absolute last resort.

Season 3[]

  • Even though she was tempted to cut Lexa's throat, she ultimately decides against it.
  • She decides to accept Lexa's offer of becoming the thirteenth clan in Lexa's coalition to avoid war.
  • She protects Lexa from the vote of no confidence and ultimately being couped, by voting against the vote of no confidence.
  • When she finds out that Charles Pike was elected chancellor, in a final ditch effort to save her people she convinces Lexa to abandon their values of "Blood Must Have Blood" and war is ultimately avoided.
    • When given the option Clarke decides to spare Carl Emerson's life, to remain consistent with "Blood Must Not Have Blood". (Though some may debate this isn't an admirable trait because she let a dangerous man go free).
  • Clarke remains at Polis for a majority of Season 3 to make sure Polis is okay and ultimately so that her people remain safe from grounder threats.
  • After Lexa was accidentally killed and all the young nightbloods were killed by Ontari, she steals the flame and runs off with it to make sure someone as ruthless as Ontari doesn't become commander.
  • On her journey to defeat A.L.I.E. she shows deep remorse for what she did at Mount Weather to Jasper Jordan.
  • She ultimately defeats A.L.I.E. and liberates everyone's mind.

Season 4[]

  • Even though she does lie about how everyone can survive the end of the world, it is ultimately for a good reason. So nobody panicks and so Arkadians can get back to work so that lie could perhaps become true.
  • After finding out through Octavia that the Azgeda is going to attack Arkadia, instead of starting an all-out war she uses the guards to surround the Azgeda army to make a deal with King Roan and Azgeda instead.
  • When it seems as though Emori is going to be the next test subject, Clarke instead injects the nightblood serum into herself so Emori can be spared.
  • When Emori's hazmat suit is broken, Clarke takes off hers because she's a nightblood however it's untested nightblood thus she risks her own life for Emori.
  • When Praimfaya is hitting Earth and Clarke is manually setting up the satellite, she misses her space flight with her friends. She makes a last minute successfull satelitte connection to the Go-Sci Ring, saving Bellamy, Raven, Monty, Murphy, Harper, Emori, and Echo's lives.

Season 5[]

  • When Clarke finds Madi even after being injured by her through a beartrap, she decides to take care of her and take Madi under her wing. Creating an motherly-daughterly figurative relationship.
    • Clarke kills four prisoners to keep Madi safe.
    • When Madi's ascension ceremony is successful, Clarke tries her best to take the flame out of Madi because she sees Madi as her child and doesn't want her to die at a young age.
  • She does whatever she can to avoid war over the Shadow Valley and stop Octavia from going to war.
    • She hides information that Raven and Echo were successful in gaining control over the satellite, to prevent Octavia from infecting one of her own people with the worms to kill everyone at the Shadow Valley.
    • She makes a deal with Diyoza to share the valley which gives Clarke, Bellamy and Indra a plan to destroy all of the worms.
  • Clarke tries her best to heal Abby as she works on a opiate detox even when Abby claims she is not worth saving.
  • Although she betrayed her friends, she eventually realizes she was wrong and decides to help Madi leave with Echo by killing two prisoners.
    • She helps Shaw and Raven and then kills McCreary
  • She, Raven, and Shaw decide to save everyone from Wonkru into the Gagarin transport ship and have everyone go into cryogenic sleep until the Earth is survivable again.

Season 6[]

  • Her guilt is significantly highlighted when the eclipse rises in Sanctum, when Murphy mentions how Clarke betrayed them she tries to apologizes and says that whenever she leads, people die.
  • Figuring out that Clarke is only harmful to herself under the eclipse she tries to stop Bellamy.
  • When it seems as though Clarke was ready to give up, she defeats Josephine to regain control of her body and to stop the Primes from stealing other people's bodies.
  • While she fights with Josephine for control of her body, Clarke forms an alliance with the other woman and tries to find a solution that would let them both survive. Clarke ultimately only kills Josephine in self defense when Josephine leaves her with no other options even though Clarke had found a way to safely remove Josephine and save them both.
    • Clarke later tells Josephine's parents that she's truly sorry for their loss, showing regret over what she was forced to do.
  • While Clarke killed four Primes and their two guards, it was only after they refused to surrender and attacked her.
  • Clarke helps Madi regain control of her own body, by holding a gun up to her head and threatening suicide (however, some may perceive this as her mentally scarring Madi for life).
  • Throughout the season, Clarke makes an effort to do better, but is forced to more extreme measures by events outside of her control.

Season 7[]

  • Clarke threatens to not help the disciples with the Flame if the Disciples got in her way to stop her.
  • She helps convince Echo not to kill off all of the disciples, reciting her regrets at Mount Weather.
  • Clarke protects Gabriel by shooting Doucette who attempts to attack him.
  • Even though Clarke failed the test, she still shows genuine remorse and guilt and not wanting everyone to be punished for her actions.

What Makes Her Inconsistent?[]

  • She is super lethal especially in later seasons where she needlessly kills multiple people and kills Bill Cadogan during a test for humanity, almost damning the entire human race to suffer.
    • Her sin of all the needless killings (especially Cadogan) ends up with the rest of humanity transcending except for her due to being the first and only person to have killed someone while taking the transcendence test.
  • She has committed acts of genocide amongst the Mountain Men, albeit it can be considered an act of self-defence considering the Mountain Men were attempting genocide on her people too, but genocide is still genocide and it is too corrupting for NPG.
    • Even beforehand she shuts down the power of the bunker risking many people's lives including people from Mount Weather that have helped her.
  • Clarke is shown through out the show to be rather spiteful and vengeful which often gets her into trouble.
  • She's betrayed her own friends on some occasions largely out of pragmatism and/or self-interest.
    • When Jasper finds out about the list of 100 people that they plan on keeping alive for shelter, Clarke uses her temporary authority to arrest and silence Jasper.
    • She betrays Octavia by stealing the bunker with Jaha out of fear that Octavia might lose the conclave, going as far as locking up Bellamy and threatening to shoot him when he's about to open the bunker door for his sister Octavia.
    • She betrays Wonkru and reveals to McCreary that Wonkru worked with Raven and Echo to turn off the satellite camera and replace its feed with a video loop, even when she's warned about how dangerous he is.
      • She even tries to justify betraying Bellamy and her friends, by citing the time Lexa betrayed her by taking Mount Weather's deal.
    • She frustratingly kills Bellamy Blake after a discussion about how she can't let the disciples hurt Madi, and only makes this kill more upsetting when it turns out that Bellamy was right about how Madi and everyone won't have to suffer anymore when they transcend.
  • She forced an unnamed grounder to be a test subject for nightblood against radiation as well as threatening to use Emori for the test.

Trivia[]
