Inconsistently Admirable Wiki
You know, I always looked down on you because you were Quirkless. You were s'posed to be beneath me... but I kept feeling like you were above me. I hated it. I couldn't bear to look at you. I couldn't accept the way you were. So I kept you at arm's length and was mean to you. I tried to act all superior by rejecting you... but I kept losing that fight. Since we got into U.A., nothing's worked out how I thought I would. Instead, this past year has forced me to understand your strength and my weakness. Now, I don't expect this to change a thing between us, but I gotta speak my truth. Izuku... I'm sorry for everything.
~ Katsuki Bakugo telling Izuku Midoriya how their years at U.A. had changed him into what he has become while apologized him for treated him throughout the years.
Soundwave wouldn't want to hear me saying nice things about him so... one time Soundwave sound-blasted me so hard, the flames came right off my grill! (Cybertronians laughing in the background) And Clobber, remember how Soundwave ordered you to destroy me and you said "Yes"?! Hey Windblade! Remember when Soundwave held you prisoner and made you listen to that awful dubstep compilation for astrocycles?! (even more laughing, including Windblade) What a jerk! Soundwave was truly an evil Decepticon, but Soundwave turned out to be more than that: he became a friend to me and he was a hero to us all.
~ Hot Rod giving Soundwave's eulogy, detailing how he went from a villainous jerk to a hero.

Inconsistently Admirable heroes who used to have certain corrupting qualities but would come to shed or subvert them later on.

Redeemed Villains often fall under this category, but exceptions exist if they are fallen and only redeem themselves before death or "redeem" themselves but then turn to the dark side again as well as those who never subvert any of their evil traits and never feel remorse despite redeeming.

Examples (excluding Redeemed Villains) are:

  • The reboot version of Scrooge McDuck, who used to be cold-hearted and bitter old man due to losing Della until his nephews' arrival brought back his adventurous spirit.
  • Shrek, who used to be hostile and aggressive anti-hero due to being treated like a monster until his life changed upon meeting Donkey and Fiona.
  • Merida, who used to be short-tempered and rebellious princess who constantly disrespecting her mother out of frustration until they reconciled.
  • Revali, who used to viciously pick on Link quite a lot due to his sheer envy of Link's position as the one chosen by the Master Sword to destroy Calamity Ganon as he wanted to face the monstrosity to prove himself to the world. Only after he was saved by him did he start to soften up and accept his role, even if he doesn't fully admit it. Tulin was also pivotal in helping him realize that he is still loved by his people.
  • John Marston, who used to be a murderous outlaw criminal of the Van der Linde gang, upon the sacrifice of his brother Arthur Morgan, he decided to be a more honest citizen, shedding his pivotal corrupting qualities and became a purely heroic person, despite still retaining some corrupting qualities.
  • Lance Sterling, who used to be arrogant, lethal and can be hostile to Walter until he finally sees him as his ally and a friend.
  • Lincoln Loud, who wanted to become the Duke of Loch Loud to get attention from everyone else before he passed his crown onto Angus and reformed his selfish ways.
  • Mordecai, who is too much of a slacker, always irresponsible, and is selfish, however he later reformed his ways and became less of a slacker than he was in the earlier seasons.
  • Gary Goodspeed, who used to be anti-heroic before he subverted it.
  • Katsuki Bakugo, who used to bully Izuku for being Quirkless and mistreated him out of resent and jealousy, until they made up once they began to understand each other.
  • Wolverine, who used to be antisocial and initially wanted nothing to do with X-Men, before he grew to care for his teammates and became one of the team's greatest heroes.
  • Uzi Doorman, who used to hate humanity before shedding this corrupting trait and focused on saving others from the Absolute Solver.

Please do not add Inconsistently Admirables here who have only faked corrupting qualities (e.g. Batman (DC), Master Hand, Bing Bong, Fred (Big Hero 6), Albus Dumbledore). Those should go under Misguided, Hidden Inconsistently Admirables and False Antagonists.

Also, characters who originally had other preventions like being too standard, too amoral, or relied on fridge brilliance, but got more admirable or more personality, motives and characterization, should not be added here either (e.g. Li'l Petey (Books)). This category is only for heroes who once had genuine corrupting qualities but ended up subverting/losing them.

It is rare for an Inconsistently Admirable to be Wholly Reformed and become completely good (akin to Completely Evil Inconsistently Heinous), considering they almost always have multiple corrupting qualities. The only way they could qualify as this is if their reform happened too fast to tell if it was completely real, they are too amoral or incompetent, not taken seriously, or do not display enough personality to be Pure Good or Near Pure Good (e.g. Michael Afton (FNaF VHS)). In rare cases, they may be reformed, or even wholly reformed, depending on how the player plays the game (e.g. Jesse and Valery Sablin). In other cases, they may be extremely close to or are wholly reformed, but they have too severe of other corrupting factors, like they could be an former villain that redeems themselves but spent too much time being a villain and didn't reform enough. (e.g. Luke Skywalker, and Japanese G1 Megatron).

Their Inconsistently Heinous equivalent is Debased. However, they are not mutually exclusive, as for the case of On & Off characters, it is possible for one to subvert both corrupting and redeeming qualities

NOTE: Do not add the Fallen category unless they subverted few of their corrupting qualities and would rather stay like this (e.g. Vegeta, Anakin Skywalker). Even in cases a fallen hero may look reformed (e.g. Daffy Duck, Stan Smith, Mario, Lena Luthor, Cho Sang-woo, Rigby, Junior, Brooklyn T. Guy and Woody), if they have corrupted themselves away from it then they can no longer qualify. If the hero is already corrupted, you may remove this category.

Also, characters who were initially reformed but have gained FAR more corrupting qualities than they lose them (e.g. SpongeBob SquarePants, Patrick Star, Seong Gi-hun) should not be added here either, even if they’re not Fallen, since it goes against the idea of characters renouncing their negative qualities and becoming better people.
