Sheev Palpatine: Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis, the Wise?
Anakin Skywalker: No.
Palpatine: I thought no. Not a story the Jedi would tell you. It's a Sith legend. Darth Plagueis, the dark lord of the Sith. He took power for him, so wide, he could use the Force to influence the midchlorians to create life. He had such a knowledge of the Dark Side he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying.
Anakin: He could save others... from death?
Palpatine: The Dark Side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some would consider... unnatural. [...]
Anakin: Is it possible to learn this power?
Palpatine: Not from a Jedi.
~ Anakin Skywalker being manipulated by Palpatine into starting his quest for power, motivated to prevent Padmé's death.

~ Vergil expressing his lust for power.

Heroes that would seek to rule with sheer force or whose main goal is to obtain more power, be it political power, superpowers, or magical powers. However, unlike their villainous counterparts, they seek power for the sake of saving their homes and/or love ones. There are also, however, examples of that qualify, which would mean their thrist for power is no longer rooted in heroic goals.
