Castiel is one of the two tritagonists (alongside with Bobby Singer) of Supernatural. He is an angel introduced in the show's fourth seasons who begins as a blindly loyal follower of Heaven but later becomes a loyal friend to Sam and Dean Winchester.

What Makes Him Admirable?[]

  • Saved his vessel Jimmy Novak's family from demons.
  • Turned against Heaven and tried to help Dean stop Michael's plans to release Lucifer.
  • Saves Sam and Dean from Zachariah.
  • Refused when Lucifer tried to convince him to join him by arguing they were very alike.
  • Refused when Anna suggested killing Sam to stop Lucifer from being able to possess him and sent The Winchesters back in time to save their parents from her.
  • Helped stop Dean from becoming Michael's vessel.
  • Saved Dean from Michael and sent Michael away for long enough for Dean to get through to Sam who was being possessed by Lucifer and for Sam to jump into the cage to save the world.
  • Revived Bobby Singer after Lucifer killed him.
  • Went to war with Raphael and ultimately killed him to stop him from restarting the apocalypse by releasing Lucifer and Michael.
  • Erased the memories of Dean's ex girlfriend Lisa and her son Ben to protect them after they were kidnapped by Crowley despite he and Dean now being on opposing sides.
  • Used his powers to help people after becoming an amnesiac.
  • After learning of how he had restored Sam's memories of being tortured by Lucifer he absorbed them into himself to make amends for it.
  • Held Dick Roman back which allowed Dean to kill him and save the world from the Leviathans.
  • Enlisted Sam and Dean to save Samandriel from Crowley.
  • Defeated Metatron and imprisoned him.
  • Refused to punish Dean for Tessa's death at the cost of his angel army.
  • He felt remorse for his involvement in Jimmy's death and protected his daughter Claire to make up for it such as saving her from being sold as a prostitute.
  • Stopped the grace extraction when he realised it was killing Sam and healed him.
  • Agreed to be Lucifer's vessel to save the world from the Darkness.
  • Helped save an an entire concert from being sacrificed by Lucifer.
  • Killed Billie to prevent any of the Winchesters from having to be sacrificed.
  • Despite his initial intent to sacrifice Lucifer's son Jack he later changed his mind and became a surrogate father for him.
  • Freed Sam from Chip Harrington's control and helped to do the same for the entire town of Charming Acres.
  • Made a deal with the Empty to trade his own life for Jack's which also ended her invasion of Heaven.
  • Stopped Belphegor from conquering Hell.
  • Convinced Michael to side with the Winchesters by showing memories of what God really is.
  • Sacrificed his life to save Dean from Billie.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • He became a villain in the sixth season doing several bad things like releasing the souls of purgatory, killing his friend Balthazar and restoring Sam's memories of being tortured.
  • Tried to kill the half-demon Jesse Turner who was only a child.
  • Tortured a kid for the location of the holy weapons.
  • Fried Donatello's brain to get information
  • Though he later tried to make amends he assisted Michael and the other angels in their plan to free Lucifer.
