I thought I was a hardcore horror movie fan but I was living a lie! Tell me, is it wrong for a punk rock chick living in a haunted, malevolent mansion to be touched by the magical friendship of a pony?
~ Carrie in "The Pony."

Carrie Krueger is a supporting character in the Cartoon Network animated sitcom The Amazing World of Gumball. She is a ghost and a student at Elmore Junior High, often helping the main characters navigate paranormal situations. She is Darwin's love interest and eventual girlfriend.

She is voiced by Jessica McDonald.

Her Good Ranking[]

What Makes Her Admirable?[]

  • In general, she offers sound emotional and material advice to the other characters and is a good, supportive friend who cares about her peers, especially Gumball and her boyfriend, Darwin, whom she routinely expresses love towards. She also seems to be the only character who is consistently able to solve the paranormal situations that the two often find themselves in.
  • She cares about her family, as shown when she embraces her distant father in "The Mirror" and catches up with her mother in "The Drama." The same episode also shows that she cares about and is on good terms with her ex-boyfriend, Azrael.
  • In "The Flower," she is the primary reason that Penny Fitzgerald, Leslie and Darwin were able to exorcise the Jealousy out of Gumball and eventually destroy it because of her supernatural knowledge, returning him to his true self and preventing further harm to both himself and others.
  • In "Halloween," she tries to help Gumball and Darwin save themselves and their sister from becoming ghosts forever or being sent to the Underworld by helping them retrieve their bodies before midnight.
  • In "The Pony," she helps Gumball and Darwin purchase a DVD by forcing it through a forcefield in front of the cash register.
  • In "The Mirror," she retrieved the Forbidden Book from the Underworld to save her father from an evil curse that had made him a trapped, malevolent demon for years, which also freed Gumball's entire immediate family from his grasp.
  • In "The Blame," she participates in the "Books Are Violent" song to persuade the students' parents against Felicity Parham regarding her hypocritical attitude towards video games.
  • In "The Scam," she was willing to marry Gargaroth, a grotesque apocalyptic monster, and be his bride for eternity if it meant saving the world, as he would have destroyed it otherwise.
  • In "The Stories," she assists the other characters in staging a chaotic scenario so that Molly Collins will have an interesting story to tell and feel wanted.
  • In "The Matchmaker," while Carrie initially tries to sabotage Teri and Darwin's budding relationship out of jealousy by pretending to help Gumball while secretly hoping to become Darwin's girlfriend, she later sadly realizes how wrong it would be to take away someone's happiness. She becomes disappointed in herself and admits her regret to Gumball. Carrie then ultimately decides to genuinely help him make Teri fall in love with Darwin despite her own feelings for him at the cost of her own happiness.
  • In "The Console," she is summoned by Gumball and helps defeat the Game Child.

What Makes Her Inconsistent?[]

  • She acts like a jerk and exhibits questionable behavior a fair number of times in the series. Here are the most striking examples, though not necessarily all of them:
    • In the season 1, like many characters who lacked characterization, she seemed to have some bullying tendencies, as shown in "The Quest," where she throws Anais' doll. Also, in "The Ghost", she becomes the main antagonist, repeatedly possessing Gumball's body without his consent to go on eating sprees, despite his numerous objections. While she apologizes to Gumball at the end of the episode, she immediately repeats the behavior with Richard (though this is mostly at Gumball's own suggestion). However, all of the above is mainly the result of inconsistent characterization that permeated season 1 and its characters, and it was generally fixed in season 2, so it is a minor prevention in comparison to the more consistent behavior that comes afterwards.
    • In "Halloween", she sheepishly abandons the Watterson trio, unwilling to help after they find themselves in the wrong bodies and angry Nicole has already arrived.
    • In "The Storm", she is among the kids who despise Alan and Carmen's too-perfect relationship, and she then angrily confronts Gumball and scorns him for breaking up them by (accidentally) kissing Carmen, when in reality it was Tobias' fault for throwing the ball at Gumball, making their reaction unfair.
    • In "The Mirror", she briefly possesses Gumball to slap him with his own arm after he says her name five times as a joke to summon her, even though she does not do the same to Darwin, who summoned her first.
    • In "The Matchmaker", while Carrie regrets her actions and tries to help, when it is revealed that they mistakenly set Darwin up with Teri (due to Gumball's misunderstanding, as Darwin was actually in love with Carrie all along), their subsequent joint efforts to sabotage the couple are still questionable: she possesses Teri's body to frame her for sending a premature wedding invitation and later gives Darwin a bat, sadistically encouraging him to hit Alan (framed as Teri's illicit lover) in a "crime of passion," even though Alan had done nothing wrong.
  • She can be mischievous at times, and in some cases even too much to be NPG/PG:
    • In "The Christmas," she possesses and flies away with a fried chicken from Ms. Simian’s bag, causing her to be chased away.
    • In "The Tape", she records a video instructing viewers to focus carefully for a "3D without glasses" effect, only to jumpscare them and laugh about it.
    • In "The Scam," she, alongside Gumball, helps scam the entire school for candy by pretending to save them from Gargaroth, when in reality, they are staging the threat in exchange for payment (this is before his story is revealed to be true). During the process, Carrie uses manipulation tactics to heighten the fear, including terrifying the students in the classroom and creating a suspenseful moment with Mr. Small, who is made to slowly float toward his spinning ceiling fan, believing it is Gargaroth's doing.
    • In "The Ghouls," she is upset because the ghouls are inactive and that Halloween isn't scaring anyone anymore. Though initially shocked when Gumball allows a spell to restore the ghouls' scare powers, she ultimately enjoys terrorizing and attacking the citizens alongside them as chaos unfolds in Elmore.
