Benjamin Krupp, also known as his superhero alter-ago Captain Underpants, is the titular deuteragonist of the 2017 animated film Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie.
He’s a superhero comic book character created by George Beard and Harold Hutchins who later became real after George and Harold hypnotize their principal, Mr. Krupp, with the 3D Hypno Ring to prevent him from putting them in separate classes.
He was voiced by Ed Helms.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Admirable?[]
- Unlike Mr. Krupp, he is always jolly and good-natured towards everyone, even Professor Poopypants.
- He is genuinely caring and protective of George and Harold.
- Though he caused trouble throughout downtown Piqua, such as punching a mime, throwing an old lady at a tree, and bouncing on a giant inflatable ape, he genuinely believed he was helping people in doing so.
- He intentionally lands on two criminals and knocks them unconscious, stopping a bank robbery as a result.
- While disguised as Mr. Krupp, he flirted with Edith the Lunch Lady by complimenting her blue eyes, which boosted her confidence and self-esteem.
- Taking George and Harold's statement to "free the children" too seriously, he set up an elaborate carnival in the school to bring joy and laughter to all the students. While his actions here indirectly led to many students being injured and Mr. Krupp successfully separating George and Harold, it was completely unintentional.
- He played a key role in Professor Poopypants’ defeat by distracting him, which was what allowed for George and Harold to sneak up to the Turbo Toilet 2000 in the first place. If it hadn’t been for Captain Underpants, the boys would have never been able to reverse the humorless children’s brainwashing and destroy the Turbo Toilet 2000.
- Upon hearing their cries for help, he saved George and Harold from being kidnapped and shrunk by Professor Poopypants the moment he gained superpowers from the liquidized radioactive lunch food.
- He stole Professor Poopypants' shrink ray to stop him from causing more harm with it.
- He rescued George and Harold from being eaten alive by an army of Talking Toilets when Mr. Krupp snapped his fingers and unknowingly triggered the Captain Underpants personality.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He suffers from severe moral agency issues due to being Mr. Krupp under hypnosis into being his in-universe self who is a good person.
- He is technically a hero by proxy since, while Captain Underpants himself shows desire to commit good deeds, he only became a superhero because of George hypnotizing Mr. Krupp into a fictional one.
- He is far too incompetent to be Near Pure Good, often unintentionally causing problems for George and Harold due to his dimwitted nature.
- He has minor mischievous moments, such as when he sent all the teachers to detention for "having a real attitude problem" when he was disguised as Mr. Krupp. Though to be fair, the teachers at the school are jerks, so wasn't done without reason.
