I have no say in it Gibbs, It's a pirate's life for me. Savvy?
~ Jack Sparrow's most famous quote.
Gentlemen, M’lady, you shall always remember today as the day you almost caught Captain Jack Sparrow.
~ Jack Sparrow.
Why is the rum always gone?
~ Jack Sparrow
I'll handle this, mate. Oi, fishface! Lose something? Eh? Scungilli! (falls down the steps) Got it! Come to negotiate, eh, have you, ya slimy git? Look what I got! ♫I got a jar of di-irt! got a jar of di-irt! And guess what's inside it!♫
~ Jack Sparrow taunting Davy Jones.

Captain Jack Sparrow, or simply known as Jack Sparrow, or just Jack, is the main protagonist of Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. He is the captain of the Black Pearl and one of the nine pirate lords in the Brethren Court, The Pirate Lords of the Seven Seas.

He is played by Johnny Depp who also played Willy Wonka in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Admirable?[]

In General[]

  • Despite being a textbook antihero, there are several times where he chooses to help people instead of behave selfishly.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl[]

  • He saves Elizabeth's life from drowning and countless times he saved her such as stopping one of Hector's crewmates to kill her and even agrees on Will to protect her from Hector.
  • He defeats Hector Barbossa from shooting Elizabeth while also breaking the curse.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest[]

  • He keeps his friendship with Bill Turner, even after this latter joined Flying Dutchman's crew.
  • Even if Pintel and Ragetti took part to Barbossa's mutiny against him 10 years before The Curse of the Black Pearl, he recruits them again, having no negative opinion toward them.
  • Although he disobeys to Davy Jones, it is justified because he knows that Davy Jones never respects his commitments and prefers die than obey to this latter.
  • While he briefly flees from the Kraken, leaving his crew and friend to fend for themselves, not only does he return for them, he also stays behind (albeit it a bit unwillingly) to face down the Kraken on his own, giving his friends and crew a chance to escape.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End[]

  • He was ready to die if that means to foil Beckett's plans, authorizing him to this latter to shoot him even if Beckett hesitated because he doesn't the Brethen Court.
  • He damaged Beckett's ship in order to delay him, knowing that this latter doesn't respect agreements.
  • He gave up his goal of wanting to pilot the Flying Dutchman to save Will’s life after he got wounded by Davy Jones, by stabbing Davy Jones' heart, also killing him which ended his terror. While Will did get cursed due to this, it was because it was either that or Will dying, but he chose to save his friends life and, in the end, Will's curse end up getting lifted.
  • This incident also leads to Will becoming the captain of the Dutchman, causing Beckett and his minions to be outnumbered leading to his defeat after the Endeavour was blasted to pieces with cannons from both the Black Pearl and the Flying Dutchman.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides[]

  • When Mr. Gibbs was being trailed accused of being Jack Sparrow, Jack disguised as a judge, sentenced him to be locked in jail, saving him from being hung.
  • He leads Queen Anne's Revenge's crew to mutiny against Blackbeard and his officers.
  • During the mermaid attack at Whitecap Bay, he tries to order the crew to retreat back to land to save their lives, only for Blackbeard threatening to shoot them should they return back to land.
  • He destroys the lighthouse of Whitecap Bay in order to save the crew from mermaids and also to try to foil Blackbeard's plans.
  • When Blackbeard threatened Jack to jump or he will kill Angelica, he was shocked telling Blackbeard “You wouldn’t kill your own daughter!”. This leads to Blackbeard giving him 6 pistols with only 2 having bullets in them meaning he does not know which one is loaded which in the end manages to not get shot.
  • When Angelica stormed off and tried to jump, Jack decided to jump knowing he would survive the fall of the storm.
  • He helped Barbossa escape his bonds and agreed to help him take revenge on Blackbeard.
  • When the fountain of youth was destroyed, he gave Angelica and Blackbeard the two chalices, one giving life and the other taking it. He then tricks Blackbeard into drinking the one that gave death, by encouraging him saying "you must save your daughter". However, knowing that Blackbeard would sacrifice his daughter just to save himself, he saved Angelica by tricking him by mixed the Chalices leading to Blackbeard's death.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales[]

  • Although he flees from Salazar, it is totally understandable because Salazar is immortal and also pirates' worst fear. Not only that but he perfectly knows that Salazar is completly incapable to spare anyone who meet him.
  • He helped Henry Turner find the Trident of Poseidon to break Will's curse so that Will can reunite with his family.
  • He acted as mentor and paternal figure for Henry and help him in his relationship with Carina.
  • He, Henry and Carina go on land in order to save his crew from Salazar.
  • He saved Henry from Salazar's sharks.
  • Once the Black Pearl restored, he, Henry, Carina, Barbossa and his crew take advantage to be on land to delay Salazar as longest time as possible.
  • He warns Barbossa and his crew of the danger if Salazar find them again.
  • He stopped Captain Salazar from obtaining the Trident for his own purposes.
  • Despite this rivalry with Barbossa, he pays homage to his latter after Barbossa sacrificed himself for save them by killing Salazar.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • He is often too much of a jerk, especially towards his crew.
  • He is the define example of an anti-hero, as he is basically manipulative towards Will Turner in order to gain immortality or to achieve his goals. He can also be treacherous and at times can become quite rude when talking to other despite doing many heroic acts while also being a pirate who steels loots from other people including treasures. Examples of these include here:
    • Being willing to hand Will Turner to Davy Jones, just because he thought Will’s soul would be worth more, and so he would have to collect less to complete his debt with Jones. He was also willing to send 99 others to Jones, which would lead to every one of them to death.
  • He willingly let the cannibals eat his crew, telling Will to "save him only". But it is a minor prevention because he was forced to act in this way.
  • When he convinced Norrington to engage in a fight with Barbossa, only to reveal the plan to Barbossa in exchange for his own life, this resulted in the slaughter of many of Norrington’s men.
  • He can be perverted sometimes, especially when he tells Will he should have "kept his cake hole closed", and he often seduces people as he is often flirting with them. He even makes advances on Elizabeth, whom Jack knows is engaged to Will.
