Don't worry, Maurice. You are all home now. Apes are strong... with or without me.
„
~ Caesar's final words, consoling his oldest ape friend.
Caesar is the main protagonist of the Planet of the Apes reboot franchise. He is the reboot incarnation of Caesar from the original Planet of the Apes.
He was portrayed by Andy Serkis through full-motion capture.
After bonding with some apes in the shelter, he snuck out of the shelter and into Will's house at nighttime in order to free all the apes in the city.
He felt remorse for killing Dodge Landon despite his cruelty to apes (although Caesar never knew that mixing water with electricity result in electrocution among living species; Dodge was holding his stun baton, threatening to skin every ape at the facility as Caesar simply sprayed him with the fire hose in defense, causing for Dodge to be electrocuted).
He freed all the apes from both the shelter and Gensys and led them to escape in the Muir Woods.
He mourned Buck's death after he sacrificed himself to destroy a helicopter shooting at the apes.
He refused to save Steven Jacobs for his cruelty to apes and let Koba to decide his fate, as the latter had killed him by toppling the crashed helicopter off the San Francisco Bridge.
When Will asked Caesar to come home with him, Caesar refused choosing to stay with apes to protect them.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes[]
He wanted to befriend humans so that they can live peacefully with each other species, instead of being xenophobic due to them not posing a threat to his kingdom.
He took pity on Malcolm and agreed to help the humans work on a dam to restore power.
He manages to defeat Koba for all the heinous acts he has committed before being retaken as a leader.
War For the Planet of the Apes[]
He offered the Alpha-Omega a peace treaty and only reneged when they killed his wife Cornelia and his son Blue Eyes.
He sent the Ape Colony away for their own safety before he started his journey to the Alpha-Omega base, and only agreed to let Maurice, Luca and Rocket come with him when they insisted.
Although he was angry at Winter for betraying the apes and causing his family's death, he and the other apes only meant to silence him so that they aren't caught and showed remorse when they accidentally killed him.
Although he started out wanting revenge on his family's death by killing Colonel McCullough, after finding out he is also mute due to the flu just like his son, he instead lets him go causing him to kill himself sympathizing with him.
His influence eventually convinced Red to redeem himself and help Caesar escape by killing Preacher, though this gets Red killed in the process.
In the end, he manages to lead the apes to their new home after the war ended before dying from his wounds stating that his people will be just fine with or without him, this remains somewhat true as his rules are still important to the apes even in many years later.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
He almost bites Hunsiker's finger off for calling the cops on his mentally ill grandfather, although he was a jerk.
He loses his temper and nearly beats Koba to death for accusing him of caring more about humans than his son, which was a factor in Koba's betrayal as he felt humiliated. Despite feeling remorse for that, he never apologized or even tried to make amends for his behavior.
He is a bit too lethal, as he had no issues with aiming a gun at a child, and while it was likely becuase he wanted to defend himself due his previous experience with humans, she still presented no threat to him, meaning it's still corrupting.
He considered abandoning Nova after killing her father in self-defense, not caring she would die without a caretaker. While he does eventually allow her to join the Apes, it's only because Maurice insisted on adopting her instead and even then, Caesar shows no remorse for trying to orphan and almost abandoning a young girl.
He caused an avalanche that destroyed the Alpha-Omega base and killed all of McCullough's men, for which she showed no remorse.
