Buttercup (named Kaoru Matsubara in the Japanese Version) is part of The Powerpuff Girls Z and is the second member. She transforms into Powered Buttercup and her trademark weapon is a large piko piko hammer. She is also one of the main 3 protagonists of Powerpuff Girls Z series (alongside Bubbles and Blossom).
She was voiced by Machiko Kawana in the Japanese version, and by Kelly Metzger in the English version.

- Similar to her original counterpart, she defeats Mojo Jojo all the time.
- She is always willing to protect Townsville.
Season 1[]
- She saved the children from being kidnapped and stopped Mojo.
- When Mojo is gonna eat every food, Buttercup stopped him from stealing every food.
- While people were turned into monkeys, Buttercup and Blossom were thinking of a plan to turn them back into normal.
- When Mojo was stealing every oranges from a store, Buttercup stopped him and after that, she broke a glass window, however it was Mojo's fault since he was responsible for making her breaking the glass window while she didn't meant to.
- Buttercup stopped Fuzzy Lumpkins from stealing every territory.
- She stopped Princess Morbucks (Miss Himeko) and then stopped her robot because Morbucks is pretending to be "good".
- Buttercup stopped Sedusa from stealing every jewelry but still makes her beautiful when she stole all of the jewelry, she also returned all of the stolen jewelry.
- Buttercup stopped Mojo and his robot until when a haircut robot brainwashed her, she tried getting out of it until Blossom and Bubbles stopped her, later on it returns so Buttercup and the girls stopped her once again.
- Buttercup saved Morbucks when she got hit by a rock.
- Mojo was stealing every cake in all cake shops so Buttercup stopped him and gave away all of the cake to everyone.
- She tried stopping the Red Wolf, however she stopped when Bubbles realized it's her boyfriend back then.
- While Mojo and The Amoeba Boys trapped Powerpuff Girls Z in a electric cage, Buttercup and the girls were thinking of a plan to get out.
- When Buttercup noticed people were turning half-grey, Buttercup tried stopping the camera and she saved the mayor.
- Buttercup stopped the Gangreen Gang when Bubbles figured out they were monsters.
- There was a talking ramen so Buttercup tried stopping him because he keeps forcing people into eating the same ramen rather than just putting some flavor or more to it to make it taste good.
- She still saves Morbucks after when she was defeated just so she doesn't get fully hurt. She also stopped the cat, the one that is turning her into Morbucks.
- A guy revealed a newspaper about Powerpuff Girls Z but it is too blurry, so the guy get help from the girls (including Buttercup) by picturing them.
- A eletric wave monster appeared so Buttercup tried stopping him especially that a giant cellphone monster appeared so Buttercup tried stopping him as well.
- Although this episode of Buttercup shows that she's just lazy and rather read her magazines which is why she was sent into the moon because of her because she didn't want to attack Mojo, Fuzzy Lumpkins, and the Gangreen Gang, however she felt remorse for her actions and is now willing to attack Mojo, Fuzzy Lumpkins, and the Gangreen Gang meaning she rejected this corrupting factor.
- She tried stopping Mojo and The Rowdyruff Boys.
- Instead of fighting the Toy Duck that Peach really cares about, she made the Toy Duck smaller so that the Toy Duck won't cause any danger.
Season 2[]
- There was sushi turning into monsters so Buttercup stopped them.
- The girls stopped Morbucks from giving away the money that Morbucks possibly stole.
- Buttercup brings Blossom to the dentist and tried stopping Mojo as well from running away from the dentist.
- Buttercup stopped a monster clown from forcing people into dancing.
- Buttercup stopped a dung beetle.
- Buttercup tried stopping the bully before he bullied Blossom.
- Buttercup tried stopping a spaghetti monster until Blossom stopped him and made him move into another country.
- Buttercup wanted to have different type of nicknames so she understand the weeds since they wanted to have different nicknames as well but Buttercup kept her nickname to hide her secret identity.
- The mayor was possessed by Tokugawa Tsunayoshi so she stopped Tokugawa Tsunayoshi and turned the mayor back into normal.
- Buttercup gives Ken a roller coaster experience just like what Ken always wanted.
- Buttercup teached everyone manners and stopped Rowdyruff Boys from disguising as Powerpuff Girls Z.
- Buttercup helped her dad stopping the panda.
- In the finale episodes, Buttercup stopped HIM from taking over the volcano, destroying the entire town, and stealing the power of all monsters.
What Makes Her Inconsistent?[]
- She has problems with her anger issues such as getting hostile at Blossom because she wants to be the leader.
- She shows her overconfidence, can also be very rude, and mocks her enemies.
- She's quite arrogant.
- She can be violent at times.
- While she did help Bubbles and Blossom cleaning every room of Bubbles' house, she didn't clean the last room which made the house haunted.

- She, Blossom's reboot counterpart, Bubbles reboot counterpart, and her reboot counterpart are currently the only four characters of The Powerpuff Girls franchise to be Inconsistently Admirable.
- She is also the only character of Powerpuff Girls Z series to be Inconsistently Admirable.
- She, her reboot, and Learning with Pibby fanon counterparts are the only three versions of Buttercup to be Inconsistently Admirable, while the original is Near Pure Good.
- She fits the description of the moral scaling trio, with her being IA, Blossom being NPG and Bubbles being PG.
- She also represents the spice tense.
