“ Peter, you're my best friend. You gave me a home when I didn't have one. And you've treated me like a family member ever since. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for you. I'd probably be dead anyway, lying under some freeway overpass. And I wanna return the favor. After all, I'm a dog. I have another eight years, at best. I'm willing to give that up so you can have another forty. „
~ Brian willing to give up his life to save Peter's
“ You... you've giving me a wonderful life, I love you all. „
~ Brian's last words to the Griffins before his death.

Brian Edward Griffin is one of the deuteragonists of the adult animated cartoon Family Guy.

He is the family dog in the Griffins. However, he is an anthropomorphic since he has the ability to talk and walk similar to a human since he's very intelligent. He is best friends with Peter and Stewie, and often goes on adventures with him. He is also the archenemy of Glenn Quagmire.

He is voiced by Seth MacFarlane, who also voices Stewie Griffin and Glenn Quagmire in the same show and Ted in Ted.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Admirable?[]

  • He generally cares about his family, and he's one of the people who respects Meg and has a strong friendship with both Stewie and Peter.
  • He was willing to give both of his kidneys to Peter, which would've costed his life so Peter could get rid of his kidney transplant, and also giving him back since Peter saved him from death, showing that he can be selfless.
  • He goes back in time to prevent 9/11 from happening, and ended up saving 3,000 lives. However because a catastrophic event happens 5 years later, he and Stewie fix the original timeline in order to erase the catastrophic from existence.
  • He stands up for Meg after Connie embarrassed her at the dance.
  • He and Stewie went and saved Meg from being forced into sex slavery since she got captured.
  • While they did fail, he and Stewie tried to expose the cure of cancer from Carter.
  • He stopped Stewie by committing suicide after he was diagnosed with the cooties.
  • Brian warned an amnesiac Peter, who managed to regain his memories, that Quagmire is making a move on Lois.
  • Brian to taught Peter how to be a gentleman. After several attempts through regular methods, Brian resorts to shock therapy. But this led Peter into a delusional state, so he snapped him out of it.
  • He and Stewie attempted to save Christmas after Santa collapsed and couldn't deliver presents anymore.
  • He and Stewie saved the world from Bertram after the death of Leonardo Da Vinci caused by Bertram.
  • In order to save Peter's life from getting shot by Joe, he jumped in front of the bullet so that Peter wouldn't get hit.
  • From time to time, he makes amends for his mistakes.
  • He prayed to God in promising to help out in a soup kitchen during an 'world-ending' epidemic, causing 87 people to commit suicide and widespread looting only to learn that is was an April Fools joke by the Channel 5 News which made Brian disgusted in rage as he sets out in the soup kitchen as promised.
  • Although he continues being a pretentious douchebag, Brian admitted that he hates himself for his own flaws when Stewie's imitation of him began getting on his nerves over time and presented with proof that it is indeed his own habits.
  • So far, Brian hadn't stooped to Quagmire's level of a depraved sex offender.
  • Despite their ongoing feud, he was there to comfort Quagmire in the hospital when he choked himself and supported his sister, Brenda, when she was getting abused by her fiancĂ©e, Jeff.
  • He renamed James Woods High in honor of the late Mayor Adam West.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • Just like many Family Guy characters, he is very on & off, especially in the newer episodes of where he commits more villainous acts than heroic, with too many questionable actions and Moral Event Horizons such as:
    • Giving Chris and Stewie herpes by transmitting blood, doing it remorselessly since he knows he has the disease. (It is also questionable when he caught this disease, so it's possible he's given every woman he's slept with the disease as well.)
    • Falling in love with Lois and trying to sleep with her many times in the series, and was nearly about to rape her on a few occasions, including successfully raping her while in Peter's body.
  • He is shown to be a complete jerk, such as being very ungrateful to Stewie when his book "Wish it, Want it, Do it!" was published and was shown to be abusing Stewie despite Stewie trying extremely hard to help him. He also joins in abusing Meg, who is basically the punching bag of the entire show.
  • He is very egotistical, selfish and pretentious towards many people. He constantly acts very arrogant as he thinks he's smarter and better than anyone else, and constantly blames other people for his mistakes other than himself.
  • He is also very lethal, such as shooting an innocent man and then saying "Later, Dink" and murdering several squirrels out of pure sadism, including a baby squirrel that Stewie and Chris nursed back to health.
  • He is an sex addict regardless of Dog and Human preference to the point that he's willing to lie, betray, and even harm anyone to get what he wants as shown in multiple episodes.
  • He is a massive hypocrite, such as when he constantly calls Peter out on his villainous actions, despite the fact that he is just as guilty.
  • He has several wrathful moments in later seasons, such as when he lashed out at Stewie in the episode where he wrote a bestseller, despite everything Stewie did for him as his publicist.
