Billy is one of the three eponymous protagonists of The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy. He is a dimwitted, happy-go-lucky boy who lives in Endsville and the best friend of both Mandy and (unwittingly) Grim.
He was voiced by Richard Steven Horvitz.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Admirable?[]
- In general, he is a kind and well-meaning person, and he treats Grim better than Mandy does.
- In "Meet the Reaper", he and Mandy challenge Grim to a limbo contest to save the soul of his dying pet hamster, Mr. Snuggles.
- In "Something Stupid This Way Comes", he tries to teach Nergal the five "C's" of friendship.
- In "Hoss Delgado: Spectral Exterminator", he and Mandy stop Hoss Delgado from destroying Grim.
- In "Brown Evil", he helps Hoss Delgado fight off a zombie invasion.
- In "Tricycle of Terror", upon realizing how evil Trikey is, he lets Mandy destroy it once and for all.
- In "Billy and Mandy Save Christmas", he was ultimately the one to cure Santa of his vampiric condition by baking him a batch of cookies that returned him to normal. He also redeemed Santa's wife, Nancy the Head Vampire.
- In "Billy & Mandy vs. the Martians", he, Grim, and Mandy saved the world from Morg.
- In "Company Halt", he and Mandy prevented Evil Con Carne from destroying the neighborhood.
- In "Spidermandy", he cured Mandy of her Spider Pox.
- In "Billy & Mandy's Big Boogey Adventure", he helped stop Horror's Hand from falling into the Boogey Man's possession so he could subject all of the children on Earth to a Fate Worse Than Death, as well as helping Grim get his job back.
- In "Billy and Mandy Moon the Moon", he helped stopped alien werewolves from stealing the Earth's entire supply of dairy products.
- In "The Incredibly Shrinking Mandy", he was willing to help Grim upon seeing him in tears by shrinking Mandy to the size of a mouse with his scythe, albeit doing the exact opposite by accident.
- In "Underfist: Halloween Bash", he and the rest of the main trio helped the titular team of superheroes stop Mr. Bun Bun from sending his army of candy monsters to eat every child in the world.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy is a dark comedy series where nothing is really taken seriously and the heroic characters (and those who aren't villainous) have their moments of jerkishness, and Billy himself is no exception to this rule.
- He is too incompetent, too reckless too stupid and too destructive to be Near Pure Good. He is ultimately responsible for much of the chaos and destruction that happens in Endsville, as it is more often than not caused by his stupidity and tendency to mess around with supernatural items found in Grim's trunk, often with catastrophic results. Worst of all, he learns nothing from his mistakes. His oblivious actions are so destructive and happen so often that he actually causes more frequent harm than the far more malicious Mandy, making him nearly as heinous as her. For instance:
- In the episode "Big Trouble in Billy's Basement", he reads The Bad Book against Grim's wishes, which leads to him being possessed by Yog-Sothoth, an evil deity bent on destroying the world and remaking it in its own image.
- In the episode "Brown Evil", he makes brownies with Evil Powder from Grim's trunk, which indirectly causes a zombie uprising (though it be said Grim was equally at fault for leaving the brownies outside in the trash can).
- In "Billy & Mandy's Jacked Up Halloween", he borrows Grim's sycthe and meets Jack O'Lantern, who successfully tricks him into giving him the sycthe so he could open a portal and summon evil spirits from the Underworld and brings pumpkins to life, so he can wreak havoc on Endsville and make Halloween every night forever. To add insult to injury, at the end of the episode, he blames Grim for letting him borrow his sycthe even though earlier, Billy stated his intentions to borrow it, proving that he refuses to take responsibility for his actions.
- He caused the entire conflict of "The Grim Adventures of the KND", when he steals his dad's lucky pants and accidentally ruins them with Grim's sycthe and gets the Kids Next Door involved. While Numbuh One volunteers to stay in Endsville and go undercover disguised as Billy, the real Billy goes with the rest of Sector V to the Delightful Children from Down the Lane's mansion, where he mistakes the Delightfulization Chamber for a restroom. When the DCFDTL try to stop him, they fuse into the Delightful Reaper.
- He is incredibly mischievous and rebellious (both in a bad way) as he is shown to hate rules, has a tendency to disobey orders either from Grim or his parents, and annoy or drive others insane with his stupidity, most notably General Skarr.
- While nowhere near as bad as Mandy, he still has several moments of being a jerk throughout the series, especially in the later seasons. Notable examples include:
- The episode "Love is EVOL Spelled Backwards", where he goes out of his way to try to ruin Nergal and Aunt Sis' relationship for selfish reasons, when Nergal did nothing evil throughout the episode, as all he wanted was to be loved.
- On a few occasions, most notably the episodes "Who Killed Who?" and "The Bad News Ghouls", he is shown to have a misogynistic side, whereas he and his best friend Irwin refuse to let Mandy in on the fun because she's a girl. What makes this hypocritical of him is that in the latter episode, he lets Mindy join his baseball team solely to spite Mandy.
- The episode "The Love That Dare Not Speak It's Name", where he treated Grim terribly because he was jealous of Blandy's crush on him.
- The episode "Be A-Fred, Be Very A-Fred", where he and Mandy made Fred Fredburger cry only for him to blame Grim for it.
- The episode "Everything Breaks" where he spends the entire episode destroying random objects because he thinks it's fun.
- He's also incredibly cruel and abusive towards his adoptive son Jeff the Spider, with almost all of his interactions with the talking arachnid being him screaming at him when he isn't outright trying to kill him. While this can be partially understood by his fear of spiders as a result of Bun Bun dangling one over his crib when he was a baby, this still doesn't justify his treatment of Jeff, especially considering the latter is nothing but friendly towards Billy himself.
- His stupidity has caused him to unwittingly commit evil acts or help villainous characters, with some notable examples being:
- The episode "Little Rock of Horrors" where he helped the titular Brain-Eating Meteor find and eat the brains of everyone in Endsville.
- The episode "Prank Call of Cthulhu", where he and Irwin help Cthulhu transform all of humanity into squid-like monsters.
- Most infamously "The Grim Adventures of the KND", where after fusing with the Delightful Reaper, he helps the Delightful Children from Down the Lane reap the souls of children across both the KND and the Billy and Mandy universes.
- Sometimes, he does heinous acts on his own accord, such as the episode "Sickly Sweet", where he and Grim curse Mandy by putting the Mask of the Beast on her, causing her to transform into a hideous beast every time she acts like a jerk.
- Due to his insanely low IQ of -5, it could be argued that he has moral agency issues. However, he is shown to have awareness of his actions on several occasions, so this is a minor prevention.
