NOTE: This article is only about Big Jim's heroic deeds in the original book series as his film counterpart is a neutral character. |
"Big"/"Little" Jim, also known as his superhero alter-ego Commander Cupcake or Snug, is a major character in Dav Pilkey's Dog Man book series.
He is an optimistic, overweight cat with a tragic past who currently resides in Cat Jail. He is the one-sided best friend of Grampa, and he sometimes also moonlights as a superhero named Commander Cupcake.
His Heroic Ranking[]
What Makes Him Admirable?[]
In General[]
- He is a loving and sweet cat who is always caring for others, no matter how mean or kind they are.
Past Life[]
- While not much of a heroic deed, Big Jim, then called Little Jim, decides to find The Ring of Destiny and Stuff for his parents, knowing full and well how much it meant for the whole family.
- While Big Jim did land up in prison, it relies on Fridge Horror due to being offscreen, and considering his personality, it may have likely been accidental.
- The Meet-the-Cast in Big Jim Believes reveals he is imprisoned for a crime he didn't commit, however, it's currently unknown what the crime actually was.
Dog Man: Brawl of the Wild[]
- He supports Petey on his journey to become good, saying he was proud of him for trying to do so.
Dog Man: For Whom the Ball Rolls[]
- He stops a fight between two Cat Jail inmates.
- He escapes Cat Jail for the sheer purpose of wishing to aid in defeating Dr. Scum.
Dog Man: Fetch-22[]
- He escapes Cat Jail for the sheer purpose of wishing to aid in defeating the Fair Fairy and her army.
- He, albeit accidentally, captures the Fair Fairy and Grampa, allowing the two to be arrested for their crimes.
Dog Man: Grime and Punishment[]
- After Grampa as Curd escape form jail, he escapes Cat Jail for the sheer purpose of searching for him.
Dog Man: Mothering Heights[]
- He tells Dog Man that everything will be okay when learning things were being rough.
- He tries to stop Grampa from stealing cans of Living Spray and Cannery Grow from Petey's lab.
Dog Man: Big Jim Begins[]
- He tries to help Grampa after hearing him get injured severely.
- After learning from Dog Man that all of the heroes in the city have fallen asleep due to a sleeping potion created by alien robots, Big Jim starts to go out and stop the alien robots.
- Instead of violently destroying the Space Cuties, Big Jim instead just tries to hug them, showing he is not lethal at all. Also after his hug accidentally pops off Doctor Dimples’ head, he tearfully cries to Doctor Dimples' "death".
- He calls out on Grampa that even though he had defeated the Space Cuties, it was in a lethal way, as he genuinely believes that’s not how kindness works.
- He and Dog Man wake all of the sleeping heroes up, by singing the "Wakey Wakey" song.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He is severely incompetent in his heroic deeds to be Near Pure Good, since a lot of them are mainly just mere accidents.
- While he's a nice guy in general, he is still way too childish and dimwitted, causing many characters to get annoyed at him, such as Petey and Grampa which also prevents him from being Near Pure Good.
- The majority of his heroic actions are after he was hypnotized by Crunky and Bub to become a cupcake-themed superhero, which indicates he suffers from moral agency issues.
Trivia[]
- As the book series is ongoing and is starting to follow Big Jim more and more, its likely his ranking will change, possibly Near Pure Good or even Pure Good if he subverts his incompetence.
