Barry B. Benson is the main protagonist of the 2007 DreamWorks’ animated comedy Bee Movie. After impulsively leaving his hive, he discovered humans had been stealing and selling honey obtained by bees and became hell-bent on putting an end to the theft.
He did this by launching a lawsuit against the entire human race to free all bees kept on farms and to get back all of the honey that is rightfully theirs. This, however, ended up having negative implications he didn't expect and must fix.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Admirable?[]
- When Vanessa saved his life from Ken, he broke the bee rule of never talking to humans so he could thank her.
- Upon learning that humans were keeping bees and stealing their honey, he exposed the humans to his hive.
- Despite their previous hostility and romantic rivalry, he was nice to Ken in all of their interactions.
- He won his lawsuit against the humans which saved what is at least millions of bees from slavery in harsh conditions.
- He stopped the earth's plant life from dying by gathering countless bees to pollinate the remaining flowers.
- He saved an entire plane full of human passengers after both pilots were taken out of commission.
- He took up a job offering legal advice to animals who believed their fruits were obtained illegally, employing Mooseblood to work with him as well.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- Although it was done with good intentions, he's an extremist as he wants honey banned worldwide, which causes people to be arrested just for being around honey.
- He refused to go to Frankie's funeral because he considered using a sting on a squirrel wasteful and called him a hothead, which was rather cruel.
- He lied about being a pollen jock to impress some other bees.
- He shows sexual deviancy by flirting with his cousins.
- His lawsuit against the humans had the unintended consequence of causing bees to enter a depression due to their lack of purpose along with creating an environmental crisis because bees weren't pollinating anymore.
- He is xenophobic toward bears, as shown by his introduction of new laws that only offer them negative publicity, along with having Winnie the Pooh tranquilized for holding honey. This is completely unwarranted considering the only experience he ever had with a bear was positive as one helped him out in his court case.
Trivia[]
- He is the only character from Bee Movie to be Inconsistently Admirable.
