Bando is reoccurring antagonist and later supporting character in the Elfen Lied series.
He is voiced by Joji Nakata in Japanese. In English, he is voiced by Jason Douglas in the anime and David Wald in the OVA.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Admirable?[]
In General[]
- Despite going after Lucy for vengeful reasons it is also due to him wanting to keep humanity safe from the Diclonius so it isn't self-serving.
- Due to the low admirable standards of Elfen Lied, Bando can't be compared to Lucy, Nana, and Kurama since the former two are Diclonius and the latter having a lab to work with mostly while Bando himself only had a gun and replacement limbs to work with making him stand out with fewer resources.
Elfen Lied[]
- He would attempt to retrieve Lucy since she is considered a threat despite his methods of doing so.
- He rejected Professor Kakuzawa's deal since his idea would involve replacing humanity.
- While he did cleanup the beach so Lucy or other Diclonii don't use any objects to throw at him, it wasn't entirely selfish.
- He would honor his word to keep Mayu safe when she saved his life as while he did try to kill her accepted her request with honor.
- He would attempt to fight Lucy again though retreats in the Manga.
- In the Anime he loses to Lucy offscreen and would be his final appearance due to it being the final episode.
- He would attempt to watch over a mentally broken Kurama after Mariko's death effecting for a while.
- While he didn't initially accept it, he would accept Mayu’s call for help where he protected her and her friends from the Unknown Man when he invaded the Maple Inn looking for Lucy who terrorized them where Bando protected Mayu from being raped by the sadistic mercenary. This act of going up against a Pure Evil villain makes him cross the G.Z. enough to stand out from Kouta.
- When going up against Lucy one last time when he saw the Diclonius trying to kill Mayu to silence her after witnessing her true self he protects her where he took Lucy's Vectors that got cleavage in half where he admitted he wanted someone to mourn him dying in duty though revealed to recovered in final arc.
- He would seemly reform more and decide to protect Mayu.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- Despite redeeming himself (Doesn't redeem in the Anime due to the cliffhanger ending) he spent too much of his time as an Anti-Hero Extremist for most of the series as while he good intentions he would resort to extreme lethal methods to achieve his goals that endangered or harm others.
- He would not hesitate to kill civilians to achieve his goals claiming he killed many before and while it suffers from fridge-horror it is shown when he threaten a nurse once his implants were on when they attempt to sterilize him, shot Kouta and attempted to strangle Mayu while attempted to do his third round with her once the Unknown Man given enough claims for this corruption to be valid.
- He shown to be egoistical and sadistic a bit as he beaten up Lucy in her Nyu persona being disappointed in fighting her until she reverted to her Lucy persona.
- Even when not factoring his immoral and questionable acts, he has too corrupting personality qualities to be Pure Good or Near Pure Good for the following reasons:
- He shown to be very jerkish, prideful, egotistical, and arrogant to many people even taunting his foes and prideful.
- He is very vengeful and wrathful to his many people as he very wrathful to Lucy and Mayu though is subverted for the latter, however.
- While the Diclonius are a hostile species, him having a massive hatred for them is still considered very xenophobic even when he is aware of good Diclonius like Nana yet still choice wanting to want them wiped out.
- He only helped out Mayu against the Unknown Man for her sake for honoring his word though become a minor prevention later on when he selflessly seemly gave up his life to protect her from Lucy and later after being healed up protecting her from here on out.
- In Addition, it was too sudden to tell if he did subvert his biggest corrupting factors due to it being in his final appearance in the Manga where he seemly more reformed.
Trivia[]
- He, Kaede and Kurama are so far the only Elfen Lied Inconsistently Admirable.
- In an early version of the Elfen Lied Anime he would've have a more supportive role helping where he would've explained the Maple Inn the Diclonius and helping them out. Had it gone through it would've made him more admirable.
- It is theorized he killed Mayu’s abusive Mother and Stepfather explaining their absence from the rest of the series, as fans think at some point he learned what Mayu went through from her and was likely outraged where killed them as punishment for their terrible treatment to her. If confirmed to be true it would make him more admirable since he would've brought a child abuser and pedophile rapist to justice.
