“ | Today is a special day, a day of life. Do not force me to make it a day of death. This is your last chance. Leave or die! | „ |
~ Avizandum telling Harrow and Viren to leave Xadia, as he did not want to make his son's birth into a day of death. |
“ | What is this?! | „ |
~ Avizandum's last words, noting that the spear Harrow stabbed him with was turning him into stone. |
Avizandum is a posthumous major antagonist in the Netflix TV Show The Dragon Prince. He was the former king of the dragons and the Archdragon of the Sky, as well as the father of Azymondias and the Zubeia's mate. He was murdered by King Harrow and Viren for murdering the former's wife, Queen Sarai.
He was voiced by Chris Metzen.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Admirable?[]
- He, alongside all of the other Archdragons, allowed Queen Aditi to choose who would become the next leader of the dragons, and stopped his battle with the other Archdragons to get that title.
- After finding out that Aaravos was the one who was causing chaos between humans, elves, and dragons, he was able to imprison Aaravos and gave the other Archdragons clues about where the prison was so they could protect the prison's location in case he died, while Avizandum watched Aaravos through a mirror, stopping him from doing more chaos to the world for 300 years.
- During his reign as the king of the Dragons, Avizandum would protect Xadia's border from human armies.
- He abolished the Order of the Blood Moon, cult dedicated to gaining magical power by the draining of blood, wiping the members out one by one, with the exception of their leader Kim'dael.
- According to Zubeia, Avizandum did several other heroic acts during his time as king of the dragons, such as ending a drought in the Far Reaches by bringing a thunderstorm across half of Xadia, and defeated a shadow-eater that was tormenting the Sothern Moonshadow tribes.
- When Zubeia left the Storm Spire for unknown reasons, Avizandum protected his egg and told Harrow and Viren when they came to kill him to leave Xadia, refusing to kill them as he didn't want to mark his son's birth with death.
- In his final moments, he tried to go to the Storm Spire to be with Azymondias before he died, although he died before he could see his son being being born.
- A posthumous hallucination of Avizandum convinced Zubeia to continue to try and help their son and the rest of Team Zym even after she was bitten by a corrupted banther.
- While he ends up being brainwashed into helping Aaravos in his plan to bring eternal night, after being brought back to his senses by Zubeia, he fought against and defeated Aaravos, stopping his goals and ending his threat for 7 years at the cost of his life.
- His sacrifice, alongside those of the other archdragons, allowed Team Zym and their allies to maintain their morality and give them a chance to prepare to fight Aaravos when he eventually returned.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He is too lethal to qualify as Near Pure Good as he murdered any human that he found in Xadia's border, showing no mercy towards them whatsoever, with the only humans he initially spared being Harrow and Viren, but this was because he needed to return to Azymondias when he hatched and not wanting mark his son's birth with death.
- It was revealed that while Avizandum did truly care about protecting Xadia and the border, he also took some pride in his accomplishments, often bragging about his victories, and leaving the remains of the human armies he wiped out so humans would remember his triumphs.
- He murdered Sarai even when she didn't try to fight him and instead leave Xadia (although this is due in large part of murdering a Magma Titan), which would leave with Ezran and Callum without a mother, with Ezran not even being able to know her. It should be noted that Avizandum never felt remorse for what he did when confronted by a vengeful Harrow who refused his mercy because "[He] never gave her that choice".
- Even when asking Viren and Harrow to leave Xadia because he didn't want to kill them, he was very cold towards them and told them that if they didn't leave, he would kill them.
- He fought bitterly against the other archdragons so he could become the next king of the dragons after the death of Luna Tenebris.
