~ The very last words of a mortally sick Arthur Morgan. (Determinant) |
Arthur Morgan (1863-1899) is the main protagonist of the 2018 action-adventure video game Red Dead Redemption II.
He was the lead enforcer of the Van der Linde gang who begins to have doubts about his loyalty to the gang's leader, Dutch van der Linde. Over the course of the game, Arthur tries to become a better man (if players took the high honor path) and seeks to save as many people as he can from the gang's downfall.
In the end of Chapter 5, Arthur is diagnosed with tuberculosis, and eventually succumbs to it later on. However, he instead gets killed by Micah Bell if he has low honor. He is also the best friend of John Marston and the arch-nemesis of Micah Bell, Andrew Milton and Colm O'Driscoll.
He is voiced by Roger Clark.

- Saved Micah from being executed in Strawberry after an altercation in town.
- He decided to spend time with 4-year-old Jack Marston, fishing together in the river.
- Although initially reluctant, he eventually saved a family of German immigrant farmers from being killed by a gang. Also, when he discovered that there were children in the family, he immediately put the weapons away so as not to hurt them.
- Saved Josiah Trelawny from being killed by a group of bounty hunters.
- He showed deep sorrow for Sean's death, blaming Micah Bell and Bill Williamson for his death.
- Along with the rest of the gang, he tried to rescue Jack Marston after he was kidnapped by the Braithwaite family, which he finally succeeded.
- He recovered a valuable object for his love interest Mary after her negligent father sold it.
- Saved Tilly Jackson from being killed by Anthony Foreman. Also, depending on the player's decisions, he can spare Anthony despite trying to kill Tilly.
- He helped a priest to free several waxed people in a tent, who were being severely tortured.
- He helped Rains Fall and Eagle Flies try to stop the war between the Wapiti Indians and the United States Army.

- His actions would have a great impact on John, with John finally deciding to become more protective and affectionate towards his family, to the point where he sacrifices for them at the end of RDR1.
What Make Him Inconsistent?[]
- He is pretty anti-heroic, not having any problem in killing anyone who stands on his way (although in general many of his victims deserve it) and, sometimes, he even commits worthy acts of a villain.
- He's quite jerkish on numerous occasions, especially when he insults his fellow gang members.
- Prior to his tuberculosis diagnosis, most of his deeds towards strangers were motivated by money rather than a genuine desire to do good.
- If Arthur chooses to go for the money, he will prioritize the gang's stash of money, as well as striking revenge on Micah and Dutch, over helping John and his family escape.
- In general, his acts and morality largely depends on the player's decisions. Therefore, Arthur can become a better person, or a cold and ruthless outlaw.
