“ | You do not need to worry about Mesmeroth, Master Mayfair. When the snake shows his head, I am more than prepared. | „ |
~ Archimedes saying that he is ready for Mesmeroth’s attack on the Realm, foreshadowing the reveal of his Living Fortresses. |
Archimedes is one of the three overarching antagonists (alongside Chronos and the Shadow) of the 2019 action-adventure video game Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm, the second installment of Cornfox & Bros’ Oceanhorn series.
He is the Grand Regent of Arcadia who won the Direfolk War and brought a huge technological boom to Arcadia. However, later on, his obsession with the Sacred Emblems and the death of his wife Calliope would influence him to secretly plot to activate the Grand Core, a machine that would raise the White City to outer space but destroy the planet in the process. He requests his knights to return the Sacred Emblems to their Beacons to do so and also to weaken Mesmeroth's Dark Army.
He is voiced by Wally Wingert.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Admirable?[]
- He helped Calliope escape from Source and they build a more fruitful live further south.
- He used the Shield of Chronos to burn down the Direfolk armies and prevent them from putting a siege on the White City.
- He brought about an age of technology and improved the lives of thousands.
- He created the Grand Core, a machine used to produce virtually unlimited electricity for Arcadia, Pirta and Submeria.
- He created the Living Fortresses, war machines that were essential in protecting Submeria when the Dark Army attacked the tropical paradise.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He ran away with Calliope to the White City despite the fact she was married to the High Philosopher, making it essentially adultery. Though, to be fair, its implied that Calliope wasn't that happy, as he stated that the Philosopher was too old for her.
- It is heavily implied that the removal of the Emblem of Sun from its Beacon caused all of the villagers of Source to turn into golden colored statues, and that he knew about this but didn't care. This is proven by telling Hero, Trin, and Master Mayfair to not stray from the path to the Beacon to return the Emblem of Sun. He also did so in a low voice, implying secrets that he couldn't show.
- Unjustly banished the Mage Guild from the White City and outlawed magic, even after Mesmeroth ended the Direfolk War in the Outlands. It is implied that he did so because of jealousy against the warlock and the amount of stardom he received upon winning the war.
- He was a neglectful father to Trin, focusing on his greatest creations rather than her.
- The true purpose of the Grand Core was to raise the White City to the Lunar Tear, an object in Gaia's orbit, but would destroy the planet in the process. Archimedes built the Grand Core for this specific purpose and to keep a promise to his wife of taking her to a star he saw, knowing of the consequences that would follow. He also manipulated the knights to follow his plan, withholding the true purpose of the giant machine.
- Ultimately, his refusal to surrender caused Mesmeroth let TRILOTH to destroy the White City and initiate the Catastrophe, causing his kingdom to be in turmoil for the next thousand years.
