The Angry Video Game Nerd, or simply The Nerd, is the titular main protagonist of Angry Video Game Nerd who is a very angry gamer. He is an reviewer of old and terrible video games and has a severe addiction to drinking alcohol, specifically Rolling Rocks.

What Makes Him Admirable?[]
- He makes reviews on bad games to make sure people won’t play them.
- Despite killing some of the villains he fought, it is usually for good reasons like R.O.B. the Robot, who was going to destroy the world and turn every single video game into either stack up or gryomite and the Death Mwauthzyx, who turned the world into a horrible video game.
- In Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie, he managed to fire a laser at the Death Mwauthzyx satellite light dish, which made him fly away and spared the earth from his plan of world domination.
- In AVGN Adventures 2 ASSilmilation, he destroyed the Death Mwauthzyx which turned the world back to normal and turned all the video game monsters back to humans again.
- In the 100th episode, he killed R.O.B. the Robot who was going to destroy the world and turn every single video game into either gyromite or stack up.
- In Polybius, he warned his fans about the dangers of Polybius, saying that once they see it, it will be in them forever and tells his fans to stop watching his video before it is too late.
- In Halloween, despite being jerks to them, he defended the trick-or-treaters who dressed up as Optimus Prime and Swamp Thing from Michael Myers. He suggested to the neighbor that he should have called the authorities on Michael Myers since he has escaped.
- In Pepsi-Man, he tried to stop Pepsiman to prevent him from turning the entire universe into Pepsi and killed TV Game Guy in order to prevent him from turning into another Pepsi-Man.
- He reformed himself, no longer being as mad as before at the games he reviewed.
What Makes Him Inconsistent[]
- He is very anti-heroic due to his wrathful outbursts at others who didn’t deserve them, which he felt no remorse for, and sacrificing people like TV Game Guy without a second thought. (Example: The Two Trick or Treaters, Bugs Bunny and Jessica Rabbit.)
- He is a massive jerk to some of the people he meets. (Examples: The Two Trick or Treaters where instead of giving candy, he gives them a bag filled with diarrhea, and Bugs Bunny where he beats him up and later defecates on his face...)
- He's an iconic berserker who is known for going way too far and being brutal with inflicting violence onto his enemies and even rivals.
- He remorselessly shoved TV Game Guy off the pool of orange soda instead of giving him the honorable death he asked for.
- He is On & Off since he sometimes commits villainous actions as his main persona “Angry Video Game Nerd” like threatening others with murder in Who Framed Roger Rabbit! or stealing video games in How the Nerd Stole Christmas.
- He reveals to have a sadomasochistic side from part 1 to 2 of his review of Sonic 2006, where he is seen taking the game cover and disc for Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 and goes to whip it in the first part before the second episode shows his desire to be whipped.

- He is the only AVGN character to be Inconsistently Admirable.
- He has crossed over with his rival and occasional ally, the Nostalgia Critic, who is Inconsistently Heinous.
- He made a small cameo in Borderline Forever - Scott The Woz. Coincidentally, he and Scott Wozniak are both Inconsistently Admirable.
- Ironically, his corrupting factors are what people find enjoyable to watch and it's what made him popular.
