Allen the Alien is a major character in the Image Comics series Invincible. He was an agent, turned leader, of the Coalition of Planets, originally working under defected Viltrumite Thaedus before the latter's death.

He is a Unopan born in a breeding camp after his race was nearly wiped out by the Viltrumites, genetically engineered to be stronger than them. While he is initially too weak, after coming close to death on multiple occasions, his strength increases and he is eventually on par with them.

His Moral Ranking[]

What Makes Him Admirable[]

  • He joined the fight against the Viltrumites in the Coalition of Planets, eventually working as an agent recruiting the strongest warriors from different worlds
  • While he has a moment of incompetence in his introduction where he goes to Earth thinking it's the planet Urath, this is fully subverted by his actions in later chapters during the Viltrumite war.
  • He stops fighting Mark to talk to him, in which he realizes his mistake of going to the wrong planet.
  • Upon discovering a Viltrumite is on Earth, he rushes back to Earth to warn Invincible, unaware he already knows and is the Viltrumite's son.
  • After receiving a power boost from a near death experience, he allowed himself to be captured and sent to a Viltrumite prison so he could rescue Omni-Man and recruit him to the Coalition.
  • He saves Omni-Man from execution with Battle Beast's help.
  • He fights on the front lines of the first Viltrumite war, eventually leading to the destruction of the planet Viltrum.
  • After his attempt at releasing a new version of the Scourge virus infects Mark, he feels great regret and apologizes to Omni-Man.
  • When Thragg leaves Earth, he sends Battle Beast to hunt him and nearly succeeds in ending him once and for all.
  • He had Oliver Grayson collect information on Thragg for the Coalition.
  • He felt remorseful for indirectly causing Oliver's death and didn't fight back when Invincible attacked him in anger.
  • He led the attack on Thragg's forces and saved Invincible from burning in the Sun during the latter's fight with Thragg by going after him himself.
  • He offered Thragg's children mercy and forgiveness after they surrendered, releasing them from imprisonment after the war.
  • After a final fight with Invincible, he eventually accepted that the Coalition of Planets was no longer necessary and rekindled their friendship.

What Makes Him Inconsistent[]

  • He is an extremist who is willing to do some incredibly morally dubious acts for what he believes is the greater good.
    • He attempted to release a modified version of the Scourge virus onto Earth in an attempt to kill the remaining Viltrumites, which would have endangered all of humanity as well. This was while the Viltrumites were not currently a threat.
    • He allowed Oliver to continue collecting information of Thragg despite knowing his life would be at risk as a result of him being in such a vulnerable position, ultimately causing his death.
    • At the end of the series, he stubbornly goes to war with Invincible's Viltrum Empire after Invincible declares that the Coalition isn't necessary to protect the universe anymore, despite knowing deep down that he was right.
  • As a result of his extremism, he is On and Off, being an antagonist both during his attempt to release the Scourge Virus on Earth and during his war on the new Viltrum Empire.
