I though I could fix a little girl’s death, but instead it led to all of this. Exposed lies, corrupted kings, a broken city. And me, a changed man. I don't look back anymore. I don't regret. I look forward. Everything is connected and I'll use that to expose, to protect, and if necessary... to punish.
~ Aiden's ending monologue in the first game.

Aiden Pearce is the one of two overarching protagonists of the Watch Dogs franchise (alongside Raymond "T-Bone" Kenney), serving as the main protagonist of the first game, a cameo character in the second game, and the main protagonist of the third game's DLC.

He is a highly skilled hacker and former criminal who uses his technological expertise to manipulate the city of Chicago's infrastructure and surveillance systems to achieve his goals.

The first installment follows Aiden as he seeks revenge for the death of his niece while uncovering a larger conspiracy. Aiden is known for his distinctive appearance, including his trench coat, cap, and iconic smartphone, which he uses to hack into various electronic devices.

He was voiced by Noam Jenkins.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Admirable?#[]

In General[]

  • He loves and cares for his family above everything else and has gone to great lengths to protect them, such as keeping tabs on his sister Nicole after the death of her daughter Lena (his niece) and attempting to be a father figure to Jackson. When a crack caller called Nicole's house and harassed her about Lena's death, Aiden traced the call and pursued the caller, disabling/apprehending him.
  • He feels tremendous guilt for the death of his niece, believing himself to be partially responsible since her death resulted from a failed attempt on his life. He spends the majority of the game attempting to atone and make up for it in any way he can.
  • Despite his troubled past as a criminal, Aiden desires to make amends and protect the innocent. He often intervenes in situations where others are being victimized or harmed, using his skills to help those in need.
  • Throughout the first game, Aiden uses his hacking abilities to fight crime and corruption in Chicago. He uncovers various criminal activities and takes action to stop them. He even collaborates with members of the underground hacking group "DedSec" Clara Lille and Raymond "T-Bone" Kenney to take down criminal organizations.
  • He managed to single-handedly stop several of Chicago's most wanted criminals:

    • After learning that kingpin Lucky Quinn was responsible for the death of Rose Washington, an employee of Blume, Aiden began to investigate him. During his investigation, he learned that Quinn was responsible for the attempted hit on him that resulted in his niece's death. Aiden exposes Quinn's involvement in various criminal operations, including a sex trafficking ring, which he dismantles before proceeding to kill Quinn by hacking his pacemaker and causing it to malfunction.
    • He killed Damien, his former partner-in-crime and corrupt hacker, to prevent him from gaining access to CTOS and using it to commit terrorism, and for betraying him and being the reason the Merlaut Job was a failure in the first place.
  • In Bloodline, the DLC for Watch Dogs: Legion, Aiden travels all the way to London to rescue Jackson after he was kidnapped and held for ransom, with help from Wrench, a major supporting character from Watch Dogs 2.

  • Collects blackmail material on Bedbug, using it to coerce him into infiltrating the locked server room in Rossi-Fremont.
    • While this might seem morally ambiguous, it ultimately serves a greater good by gaining access to critical information that could expose and dismantle the Viceroys' criminal network.
  • Takes on the identity of Nicholas Crispin, a known associate of Lucky Quinn, in order to infiltrate the auction where Iraq and Quinn will both be present.

  • After the events in London, he reflects on his journey and reaffirms his role as a vigilante, vowing to continue protecting those who cannot protect themselves.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • He's a vengeful vigilante who's killed dozens of people. While the player can choose to subdue enemies non-lethally during gameplay segments and in free-roam, narrative wise, Aiden still kills multiple targets of his, including everyone responsible in some way for his niece's death.
    • Even when employing "non-lethal" methods, Aiden can still be pretty brutal, often beating his enemies unconscious with his baton, in addition to causing broken bones and head trauma.
  • Due to being a morally-grey vigilante, he often employs various techniques and forms of manipulation to achieve his goals:
    • He manipulates and blackmails various individuals throughout the game to further his own agenda. One such person he coerces is Iraq's cousin, Tyrone "Bedbug" Hayes, whom he blackmails into acting as his inside man within a Iraq's organization by leveraging incriminating information against him.
    • His pursuit of justice can inadvertently lead to chaos and collateral damage in Chicago and often involve reckless behavior, such as engaging in dangerous car chases, confrontations with armed criminals, and risking his own safety and the safety of others. While he believes he is acting for the greater good, his actions can put innocent lives at risk.
    • During free roam, the player can steal cars, wire money from people's bank accounts, and kill innocent people. While it could be argued free roam isn't canon since it's separate from the main story, there's no doubt that Aiden's heroic acts (i.e. saving innocent people from criminals and stopping robbers) are indeed canon and mentioned several times by multiple characters. Thus, all of his villainous acts are likely canon too.
  • He's very arrogant, since he believe he's the sole protector of his family, the most skilled hacker, and that no one poses a threat to him, not even law enforcement.
  • He'll often act out of line, acting purely on his instincts and not thinking rationally before taking matters into his own hands, such as:
    • Pursing the crack caller harassing Nicole after she told him to leave it alone.
    • Assaulting Clara when he met her in person and learned that she faked her identity as BadBoy17.
  • He tracked down and beat Maurice senselessly and then had his associate Jordi Chin tie him up, kidnap him, and imprison him for weeks on end.
  • After completing the final mission of the game, Aiden/the player is given the choice whether to shoot and kill Maurice or spare him and let him go. If Aiden kills him, it demonstrates how far Aiden has fallen in his pursuit for revenge.
